Often, newcomers were automatically "Warned Out" just in case they didn't become solid citizens. And anyone who didn't have any obvious means of support would be warned out. In these two cases, the town was saying "we won't be responsible for your support--if you have no means of support, we'll sent you back to your previous town." Then, of course, undesirables were warned out -- and usually thrown out -- of town! Sue
