Saturday, July 18, 1998 11:00 AM Meet at the Swanzey Historical Society, Route 10, West Swanzey Opens at 10 AM - free admission. This museum contains a complete set of town reports from the late 1800's to the present day listing vital statistics, newspaper clippings, cemetery records, town censuses to early 1800's. View the Concord Stage Coach used in Ware, NH a hundred years ago, old maps, early tools and household goods. Includes loft and basement areas. 11:15 AM Travel to Richmond (rt 32) to view old Aldrich Cemetery. This is a short walk up a small hill through a wooded area off the highway. Bring long pants and walking shoes. There are 70 old stones, many of them are Aldrich descendants of Capt. Levi Aldrich from Mendon. 12:30 Luncheon at the Monadnock View Restaurant, Route 12, Troy New Hampshire. Enjoy a spectacular view of Mt. Monadnock with your meal. Good food at reasonable prices. 2:00 PM We will go to Aldrich Road in East Swanzey for a tour of old Amasa Aldrich house. (Present Owners will show their old house and barn- circ. 1800) Richard Scaramelli (owner) is the past president of the Cheshire Historical Society. He will answer your questions as he very knowledgeable of the Aldrich house and the history of the area. 3:30 PM We will go to Mt Ceaser Cemetery, East Swanzey. -Many Aldrich & allied family stones will be viewed here. A large Aldrich family stone with an enclosed burial plot will be seen. 4:00 PM ---Old Home Day Activities in Swanzey with crafts, antique cars, crafts, tag sale Log rolling and more...... 5:30 PM Church Supper at First Congregational Church, Swanzey Center - Partake of a traditional New England Church Supper. 7:00 PM Outdoor Band Concert at the Potash Bowl, Swanzey Center. Bring sweater, jackets and umbrella . Wheelchairs and lawnchairs are welcome. 8:00 PM "The Old Homestead" featuring the Swanzey Players at Potash Bowl by Denman Thompson. This play has been presented annually for over 50 years. The play was seen in Boston, New York and around the USA & Canada. This is a comedy-melodrama about a man named "Josh" who tries to measure New York City by what he knows of life in Swanzey. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sunday, July 19, 1998 Morning Church Services in Keene, NH. Protestant and Catholic Churches on Main Street 11:30 AM Aldrich Association Luncheon at Historical Society of Cheshire County 246 Main Street, Keene, HN Good Fellowship, Genealogy and annual Meeting will be held A luncheon will be catered by a local group at the Historical Society. The Archive Center at the Historical Center will be open to us for research. This center contains books, manuscripts, photographs, maps and business records. Genealogy books include the 6 volumes on A J Aldrich, "George Aldrich Genealogy" plus many others. Total cost for luncheon and use of Historical Center aprox $15.00 p/p. (based on 25 people) - includes $55.00 fee required to open the Center on Sunday.
