I understand there are 6 or 7 volumes of GAG. I was wondering if anyone has a database with gedcom capability of GAG or has considered creating one? I am slowly working on a database for the copy of Descendents of Capt. Henry WOODWARD book I have in my possession. It is only one volume and I know the amount of time I've put into it so far just to get 10% of it done. I can imagine with what I'm doing with the WOODWARD information what it would take to do with the GAG, a tremendous undertaking. I've made estimates from what I've accomplished on the Woodward book and guess's on how many pages in it (it was numbered once but many additions were added later on and not renumbered) that there is some where around 4-5 thousand people listed in the Woodward book. It is not a big book, I guess around 300 letter sized pages, text on both sides. There is an easier way though to do it. First what is needed is a started database of George Aldrich's family, say a couple generations out. Then everyone could contribute what information they have beyond that in the form of gedcoms. What the standards of data verification would have to hashed out by the people involved in such a project. Once the project had some measure of completeness a gedcom of the database could be made available to searchers of Aldrich roots from the Aldrich association home page, the Ancestry gedcom world tree, and other sites that might be appropriate. What think ye? D. Scott Scheibe dsscheibe@earthlink.net
