George M., The Collin Aldrich that came to Texas in the early 1800's was: Collin Aldrich (1801), b. 2 May 1801, d. 1842 Father: George Aldrich (1763), b. 19 October 1763, d. 19 October 1845 Mother: Mary "Polly" Bowen (1767), b. 12 November 1767, d. 23 January 1812 Collin married Widow Elizabeth (Lawrence) Crownover and moved to Texas when their first son, Oliver was born. Collin Aldrich was a volunteer in the army for Texas Independence and also fought at the Battle of San Jacinto. He had an active part in the organization of Houston county 12 June 1837, and was elected the first Chief Justice of the County in September 1837, which office he held until 1840. The following is as reported in "Bounty and Donation Land Grants of Texas 1835-1888" by Thomas Lloyd Miller, University of Texas Press, Austin & London, p. 717, and available from the Holdings of the Texas State Archives. "ALDLRICH, COLLIN Received Don Cert 743 for 640 acres from S War on 11 Jan 1839 for having "fought bravely at the battle of San Jacinto in 1836." 640 acres in Houston Cty were ptd to him on 8 Mar 1852.
