Hi Alice and Aldrich cousins, Thanks for posting this info. Alice. I have access to Dorcester VR's and will check this out--get back to you if there are any discrepancies. Perhaps what you posted was Mendon VR's for other Aldriches--not necessarily George's children? On conversion of dates--use caution!! Better to interpret but not convert. Old calendar is 2 months off. Here's an example: Date in record-- 14 (10) 1666 This would be-- 14 Dec 1666 If you convert to new calendar, you will have 13 Oct 1666, and the person is now born in the wrong month. Not a good idea! Problem comes in when the date is at end of year: Date in record-- 14 (12) 1666 This would be-- 14 Feb and usually is written as 14 Feb 1666/67. Sometimes when people do this incorrectly, our ancestors end up born in the wrong year. Too bad we can't just leave the dates alone--Unfortunately, most computer genealogy programs won't allow us to enter the old style date. My advise is study up and practice and be sure you interpret correctly! But don't convert to new calendar. According to your VR'S; AJ'S - GAG is off a year on Sarah; says b. 16 Jan. 1646 and the VR says 1645: Probably should be 1645/46?? Does anyone have the Dorchester, VR'S for these births?? These VR's and dates are a good example of The OLD calendar "Julian" and the NEW calendar was the "Gregorian". I myself, have a hard time changing the dates, as seems to have been done in the past here in George's family. Do we have a expert on the list to help us whether these date have been changed correctly??? as most of us have been copying from AJ or other Genealogies..
