Hi all Aldrich Cuz's, I have been reading all the queries and good data and records being posted.. Thanks all, for sharing with us all.. Bill is inquiring about MD. Aldridge families, I myself have no data on this or any southern families.. even if they migrated from the north.. Probably our National Aldrich Ass. (NAA) historian would have some answers from the R & P Aldrich Genealogy.. However Bob is away at present and will probably not return till mid March so the NAA data will not be available to any of us in his absence.. Please do not give up, others on the line may have a answer, clue etc. for you.. and John A. can also put all queries not found , on the NAA homepage AWOL'S.. (see below) If you haven't received any help, hold your query for a month or so and resubmit it to the list, we are daily getting new members, and we haven't heard from many on the list, for awhile.. Let's repost a few of our Roll Calls and ask all the new list members to send a Roll Call to the list, so we can all get familiar with their lines also.. Remember there are" no wrong post - only no post is wrong." :) I will send in my Roll Call in another message.. Come on all list members get our lines posted to the list.. Help is probably just an e mail away. Enjoyed Chatting with Ya's, Thanks All for all the well-wishes, It's a little hectic at times but life wasn't meant to be easy.. Was It??? Happy Hunting, Cuz Alice alicep@ma.ultranet.com Secretary, National Aldrich Association Home Page: http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Marina/2343

Hi All Aldrich Cousins: I am writing to the list to let you all know that Alice's husband Al is really ill, and Alice is having to spend her time looking after him. So right now, her attention to the Aldrich List is going to be minimal. I will try to do the best I can to help her out here and answer the queries if at all possible. Please have a kind thought and a prayer for her and her husband. Every bit does help. She's a good friend and I love her. SUGGESTED STANDARD FOR RECORDING INFORMATION The two basic research forms are the Ancestor Chart and the Family Group Sheet. You will need to obtain a supply of these. To fill out the Ancestor Chart: 1. Start with yourself as person #1 and work back through the generations, proving each step as you go. Even numbers are always males and odd numbers are always females. (The only exception being #1--if the person filling out the chart is a male.) 2. Print or type the first, middle, and last name. Use all capitals for the last name-- Oliver Hartwell COOK. For females, use the maiden name only. If it is unknown, draw a line or use a question mark--don't substitute the married name--use Clarissa QUINCY or Clarissa _______ or Clarissa ?? . 3. Dates should be written--day, month, year--always using the word rather than a numeral for the month and always writing out the full year. Never use commas or other punctuation in a date--22 November 1966 or 22 Nov 1966. Use standard 3 letter abbreviations only. If you have to estimate a date, use "ca" (for circa) or "abt" (for about) in front of it--born ca 1966 or abt 1966. Always say what source you used for estimating the date--born ca 1850 (age 30 in 1880 census). 4. Give complete information on the place on event took place--city or township, county, state--Fallbrook, San Diego Co., California. If you abbreviate the state, use the standard 2-letter abbreviation--Fallbrook, San Diego Co., CA. Sometimes you will also want to say what village within a township. If so, the village is listed first--McIndoe Falls, Barnet Twns., Caledonia Co., Vermont. It is important to know the county because that is where many of the records are kept. For foreign countries, that same concept is used, but it may be that the jurisdictions are different. You may have, for example, the following categories, in this order--farm, village, parish, county, country--Sandy Farm, Bremilham, Malmsbury, Wiltshire, England. In other words, use the most complete information about a place that you can. Names of places should be given with the modern name or spelling--Danvers (formerly Salem Village), Essex Co., Massachusetts would be the best way to do it. The first three listings on my chart would look like this: 2. Hartwell Russell George HILLIER b. 16 Feb 1906 bp. Fallbrook, San Diego Co., CA m. 1 Sept 1939 mp. Santa Monica, Los Angeles Co., CA d. dp. 1. Susan Marie HILLIER b. 8 July 1942 bp. Long Beach, Los Angeles Co., CA m. 13 June 1964 mp. Santa Monica, Los Angeles Co., CA d. dp. 3. Elsie VOS b. 1 April 1917 bp. Rochester, Monroe Co., New York d. dp. Abbreviations used: b=birth date, bp=birth place, m=marriage date, mp=marriage place, d=death date, dp=death place. Other common abbreviations: bap=baptism date (which is sometimes substituted for a birth date and should be indicated if it is because the date could be anywhere from several days to several years after the actual birth), chr=christening date (in this case, more likely to be an infant), div=divorce (if a marriage ended in divorce, this should be indicated), bur=burial or buried. After you have filled out your ancestor chart, fill out a family group sheet for each couple on the ancestor chart--using the same guidelines suggested above. On the family group sheet, your sources of information should be listed. If a person was married more than once, fill out a separate sheet for each marriage that resulted in children. Keep track of the marriages by putting a number after the person's name at the top of the sheet-- Robert COOK #1, Robert COOK #2, etc. If there is anyone on the COOK list who did not receive the earlier "recipes", I will be glad to forward them. Happy Hunting! Sue
Hi everyone-- I am a newcomer to this list, so please forgive me if the topic(s) of this message has been discussed recently. I am seeking evidence for the supposed English origin, ancestry, and marriage of George-1 Aldrich ( -1683) of Dorchester, Braintree, and Mendon, MA. By evidence, I mean evidence from primary sources, which in this case would probably be limited to parish or probate records. Can anyone identify the evidence for the following claims? 1) George-1 Aldrich was from Derbyshire. (Please don't cite the quotation: "God brought me to America from Derbyshire...." !!) 2) He was the son of George and Joan (Thurgood) Aldrich (or of whoever). 3) George married (in England) Katherine Seald. His wife and the mother of their children was Katherine, but what is the evidence for this maiden name? (The marriage date usually given is 3 September 1629; the date implies that there is--or was--a parish marriage record, or is the date fictitious?) Any info (or opinions) would be greatly appreciated. Regards to all, Dave wenonah@gwis2.circ.gwu.edu

The following item has been added to the Aldrich AWOL list at the Aldrich Association Home Page. Here is an interesting challenge to see if anybody can obtain information for Bill Keenon. I am trying to find information on my natural parent Emmett Ronald Aldrich, born January 31st 1925 either in NY or RI. He is presumably deceased, and is known to have had at least one son, (besides myself) name unknown. He has a brother Carl, brother Ernest, (living in New Jersey and Pawtucket RI respectively) and several other siblings who were separated at a young age. Contact with Emmett's son would be most helpful in locating his gravesite, as well as meeting my half brother. This is a major release of genealogy records in electronic format. It contains thousands of references to U.S. Revolutionary War ancestors and their descendants. It was created from Lineage Books of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution from information submitted by tens of thousands of individuals. Quoting Ancestry's announcement: As with any such contributed database of this size and scope, factual errors may exist in the data, particularly in the area of Revolutionary War service. The NSDAR has gone to great effort to collect and improve upon this valuable collection of ancestral data with additions and corrections whenever possible. Ancestry's Web site is a mixture of free and "for pay" services. The Daughters of the American Revolution Lineage Book will eventually be on the "for pay" side. If you subscribe for a full year, the price drops to $59.40 (or about $5.00 a month) plus they throw in your choice of several different "goodies." However, for the first ten days, access to the Daughters of the American Revolution LineageBook is free. Note that the announcement was dated January 19,1998, so I assume the free offer ends on January 29.
