Here is a good genealogy resource for Dekalb County if anyone can find it. It has lots of "little jewells" so to speak. It is: TRAINLING SMOKES - A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE IDER SCHOOL DISTRICT, DEKALB COUNTY, AL, Published by Berthel Adams, Ider, Alabama, 1973 The book is just not inclusive to Ider, but includes other areas as well. For example, she includes a narrative by the prominent Fort Payne Lawyers, Charlie Scott. Here is an excerpt: "For instance, I met and became acquainted with Aunt Mary Ballard and Uncle Aaron, Jasper Jones and Aunt Becky, Polk Stoner, Uncle Hughey Kerby(and that is the way he spelled it), Uncle Abner York(and his wife), Walker Biddle, John Biddle, Marion Biddle, Tobe Keith, Zilman Williams and George Stoner... I did become interested in some of the history of Pea Ridge. And I listened by the hour to such as Aunt Mary Ballard and Uncle Polk Stoner and George Stoner tell of Pea Ridge during the Civil War and Alabama generally..." Here are some other names that he mentioned: Polly Benge, Mrs. Mary Robertson Stewart, a woman of the name Sizemore who lived on Pea Ridge and remembered going to the funeral of Polly Benge, According to Mrs Sizemore, the following were people who were said to have descended from Polly Benge: Bob Ashberry and John Stewart(who were double 1st cousin- from my notes), Bob Poe, W.S. Smart, the Burtons, and others.
