    1. Is everyone on vacation?
    2. Glenda Dubak
    3. I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be out of town for the next week; however, this list has been so slow lately that I think perhaps all of you are out of town as well!!! We now have 72 very quiet members of this list. I do appreciate those of you who requested Heritage Book look ups who then posted your info to the list. I encouraged a roll call earlier this summer but that was not able to generate much activity. The offer to do Heritage Book lookups was pretty successful but awfully time consuming; however, upon my return I will extend the offer again. I will also do marriage lookups for names H-O (sorry but that's the only book I have). I will also do lookups on the Cherokee Rolls if you let me know what roll they should be on. Perhaps there are others out there who have some resources they could offer, if so, please let us hear from you. For those of you who are interested in the Dawes roll, it can be accessed on line at "www.intertekweb.com/gpsbook/cherokee/cherlink.htm" Have a nice week, Glenda (listowner)

    1. PADEN AND MILLER FAMILIES
    2. Suzanne Griffith
    3. I am searching for information regarding BENJAMIN F. PADEN and wife, Almira and their family of nine or ten children. I know that Benjamin bought federal land in DeKalb County in 1845 and 1851 and that then he later moved west. Almira Paden was a mixed-blood Cherokee and the family is listed on the Siler Roll. I am also looking for information regarding JOHN PADEN, SR , Benjamin's father who bought land at the same time. Finally, Benjamin Paden's father in law was ANDREW MILLER and he may have lived nearby. Are there any birth, death, marriage or census records on any of these families? Any help you can give will be most appreciated. Suzanne

    2. Glenda: I'm researching Ellen Rosie Weaver who supposedly was from Collinsville in DeKalb County. b. 04 Oct. 1856 and d. 21 Oct. 1939. She married Thomas Franklin Land on 24 Mar 1872. Her parents were Abraham M. Weaver and Mary J. Landingham. The family story is that her father owned a plantation and Thomas Land was the overseer and she eloped with him. Ellen's children were Edward E, Leola L, Thomas Jr., William M., Lillie Harris (my grandmother), Brinson B., Jessie J., and George O. They later moved to Texas and Thomas died in 1900. I cannot find any information on him in Texas. Ellen remarried W.C. Thomas and moved to Oklahoma, where she died in 1939. Any info on this? Lisa Leonard Hatchell Amsterh@aol.com

None of my immediate family submitted articles. I cannot believe that we missed such a great opportunity but there never seems to be enough time. Many of my lines are in the book. There is even a small mention of Atta Kulla Kulla, the uncle of Chief Red Head Will Weber. He was also the uncle of my Margaret Siniard who married Josiah Brock. There is an article on Margaret and Josiah in this book. There is info on James Thomas Siniard and Patsy Hicks along with a picture of their home in Collinsville built about 1910 by James Thomas' father. The Siniard/Sinard/Sinyard line has been fairly well documented by Lois Barrett O'Kelly in the 1970's and Delton Blalock in the 1980's. I am also related to Patsy Hicks Siniard through the same line. She is the granddaughter of my greatgrandfather John Franklin Henderson's sister Lucinda Henderson. (John Franklin was the son of Ida Arlivia Brown and granddaughter of Margaret Brock, Margaret was a granddaughter of Margaret Siniard.) There is an article on the Bean/Beane/Beene John Rankin (Estelee Beane Rankin's son) did an article on the Wynne family. He based his article on much of the information from his mother and Barbara Gonce Clepper, another Bean descendant who recently returned home to Tennessee after teaching school in Florence or Decatur for many, many years. Family along with a picture of my gggggrandfather's grave. It was submitted by Tom Rankin (Estelee Beane Rankin's son). There are many articles on the Brown family but I have not had time to compare notes to see how they fit my Brown line. My Brown line is very well documented because some of them became Mormons in the mid to late 1800's. There are also articles on the Blevins, Abernathys, Andersons, McClungs, Brocks, Brooks, Mitchells and others that I have not yet read thoroughly. I plan to put all related families into my database...........someday. As you already know, your Ellises are well represented. I was interested in seeing if Mark Brock is relaqted to my Brocks. He wrote an article on Lee John Ellis and his address is listed in Arab where Diane Brock Harbin lives------she wrote the article on Josiah Brock. I keep saying that all those DeKalb Co people are related. Of course, after living here in Cullman these last couple of years, I believe all these people have ties to the DeKalb Co people, as well. I am confident that you will thoroughly enjoy your book. I have to go read all the articles on the Ellis family, now. Have fun on the fourth, Glenda Alfred C.
