    1. ROWAN - RAINS
    2. Jean D Wallace
    3. Hello, Dekalb County Researchers, I'm new to the list, and am fishing......Is anyone researching the ROWAN family of Dekalb and Jackson Counties and surrounding areas? I'm researching Elisha and Elijah ROWAN, who were both 15 years old in 1850, in the household of Robert RAINS. Does anyone know why they were in the RAINS household, instead of with their parents? Were they children of one of the ROWAN families of Dekalb Co or Jackson Co? Was their mother a RAINS, possibly a sister of Robert RAINS? Their father was very possibly Robert ROWAN. Does anyone have access to any of the marriage records of that area? I need to know who Robert ROWAN married, between 1830-1840. Just one more question.....Are the wills and estate records available for Dekalb County, for the years between 1835-1855? Would love to hear from anyone concerning anything about the ROWAN and/or RAINS families of that area. Thank you so very much for any help or suggestions. Jean

    1. DeKalb Co., AL, pictures
    2. Barbara Dooley
    3. I have some pictures found in my mother-in-law's home when she died. My husband and I thought we had found, and with her help labeled, all her pictures--but we missed some. Now we would like some help with identification. She was Flora BOBO DOOLEY, grew up in Ft. Payne, and spent lots of time with her BOBO grandparents on Sand Mountain. One of the pictures is a large group of people, mostly men, in front of a church. Thought it might have been an early building of Mt. Moriah Baptist which is where most of out BOBOs attended, but a relative (not a BOBO, but a relative on the TURNER side) in Ft. Payne says no. Another one is also of a large group of people, and my husband's uncle says he thinks it was taken at a get-together at "the Nichols place." Both were probably taken around the turn of the century. We can recognize my husband's grandfather, George Wiley BOBO, as a young man in the one at the Nichols place. He was born in 1882, so that's why we're dating this one around the turn of the century. I wonder if I might scan these pictures and send them to someone to identify--if I can figure out to do that! Barbara Dooley Cullowhee, NC

    1. Wilson family of Dekalb Co. AL
    2. I am searching for any information on the parents or siblings of Nancy M. Wilson, b. apr 1821 in TN or AL, m. 13 April 1838 to Jonathan Sitz (Seitz) in Dekalb Co. AL, d. 1900-1910. I have had no success with this line. There was a Susan Wilson who married Jonathan Sitz's brother Andrew Sitz. A sibling of Nancy's? I suspect, (although I have no proof) that there is some relationship between Nancy M. Wilson and Elijah Wilson, b. abt 1805 in TN or KY, who married Jane F. McBrayer. In 1840 and 1850 he is in DeKalb Co. AL, in 1860 and 1870 he is in Walker Co. AL, 1880 Winston Co. AL, and 1900 he is in Indian Territory OK. His second wife was Malinda, they are together in 1880 census. Elijah had 2 brothers, John and Isaac, but nothing is known of them. Some other possible leads are that Nancy was related to Hezekiah Wilson who was in the Blount\Dekalb Co. area in 1830 and 1840's. One of the sons of Jonathan and Nancy Wilson Sitz, was Andrew Hezekiah Sitz. (Jonathan's father was Andrew Sitz and it's possible that Andrew Hezekiah Sitz was named after Hezekiah Wilson, Nancy's father perhaps?) Also, I have been told that an individual named Joseph Wheeler Wilson was of the same Wilson family as Nancy. Unfortunately I don't have a clue to where or when he lived. Any information will be very much appreciated. B.L. Sitz
