Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, August 8, 2005 fom Post Oak Baptist Church in Ozark with Reverend Don Moore officiating. Burial will take place in Westview cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Sunday evening from 3-5 p.m. Mrs. Portwood was born November 7, 1933 in New Brockton, Alabama to John R. Strickland and Annie Elizabeth (Johnson) Strickland. She moved to Dale County in 1967. She worked for Avondale Mills, Cowikee Mills (10 years)and with Dale Medical Center in Ozark for 17 years. She was preceded in death by her Father John R. Strickland. Surviving family include her mother: Annie Elizabeth Strickland of Grand Rapids, MI., 3 sons: Jimmy C. Portwood of Alexandria, VA., Gene Portwood of Macon, GA., William Portwood of Ariton, AL.; 1 daughter, Diane Mills of Flint, MI. and a step: Brenda Lewis. 4 Sisters: Gladys Dunford of Ozark,AL., Lucille Kuyt, Betty Kapla and Brenda Hudson all of Michigan. 2 Brothers: Roy Strickland and David Strickland, both of Michigan. Sixteen Grandchildren and Twelve Great Grandchildren also survive. Additional Comments: *** MRS. Louise Strickland Portwood lived in Ariton (Dale County), Alabama, soon after marriage to James Columbus Portwood in 27 December, 1947 until the summer of 1964, when her family moved to Brundidge (Pike County), Alabama. All of her natural children were born in Ariton. In 1967, Mrs. Portwood and family moved back to Ozark (Dale County), Alabama. Submitted by her son, Jimmy Columbus Portwood. 22 Jan 2006.
