S. S. OWEN Rev. S. S. Owen died at the home of his son, Verbon E. Owen, in West Cullman, Sunday morning at 2'oclock on March 23, 1931 He had been a member of the Alabama Conference of the M. E. Church for 50 years. He was pastor of the West Cullman M. E. Church for the 1917 and 1918. Rev. Owen continued to be an active member of Alabama Conference until July, 1930 when he was forced too retire because of ill health with his son Verbon E. Owen, since the first of the year. As requested by Bro. Owen before his death, his body was carried to Oneonta, Ala., Sunday morning by John Wade, undertaker. The funeral services were conducted by Re, W. A. Murphree at the Pleasant Grove Church, and his body was laid to rest in Pleasant Grove Cemetery by the side of his wife and five children, who have preceded him in death. He left surveying him two sons Levi Owens, of Oneonta Ala., and Verbon E. Owen, of Cullman, and three daughters, Mrs. W. R. Graves and Mrs. J. T. Johnson, of Oneonta, Ala., and Miss Effie Owen, of Cullman.
