Hello: Does anyone have any information on Mary Ann Julia Reid, an elusive character? She was born in Perry County 3 June 1836, daughter of Jane Reid (b 1799 in SC), and probably related to the family of Josiah Reid (Reed)/Elizabeth Woods Reid of Dallas Co. At age 14 (1850) M.A. Julia Reid was living not far from the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, north of Summerfield (Dallas Co). I surmise that ca 1860-1861 she married her cousin William Luther Reid (or one of his brothers); William L Reid was probably killed as a Confederate soldier. When the estate of Elizabeth Woods Reid was settled in 1867-1868, "Mrs. Mary Ann Julia Reid" was listed as one of the several heirs -- presumably because she was the widow of William Luther -- receiving the amount of approximately $500. Three years later, in 1870, she is listed as housekeeper for the family of Emmett Campbell, nearby. . At age 40, in 1876, she married widower Willis H Green (1823-1890), whose first wife was Cynthia Woods, a niece of Elizabeth Woods Reid. Both Julia Reid Green and Willis H Green are buried in the Mt Pleasant Cemetery, near Woods kinfolks. . She died 15 February 1897. I have never found a marriage license for William Luther Reid and Julia Reid, nor any record of the Confederate service of William Luther Reid -- or his brothers John or Finis or Cyrus. . I know that William Luther living (single) in his mother's household in 1860. He was deceased by 1867, as were all but one of his brothers, Nathan Byers Reid. . If she did not marry William Luther or "one of the Reid boys" then why is she listed as an heir of Elizabeth W Reid's estate.? What happened to William Luther and his brothers? M A Julia Reid (I believe) had brothers James C Reid (1823) and Thomas A Reid (1832), and a sister Nancy Ann Reid (1819) who married James H Lee. Can anyone shed any light on why "Mrs Julia Reid" was listed as one of the heirs of Elizabeth Woods Reid? Many thanks. Robert E Parrott, Knoxville TN
