Charles: According to "Place Names in Alabama" by Virginia Foscue, I find the following: Summerfield was a settlement with discontinued Post Office at 323114NO 870230W in Dallas County. It was named for a nearby stream, was the first settlement by white people in the county; it was made here c. 1819 under the direction of James Russell. Name changed to SUMMERFIELD for John Summerfield, a prominent Methodist minister, when PO was established in 1845. I hope this helps you. Kathryn
