The Town of Selma was incorported on December 4, 1820 by an act passed by the State Legislature. ################################################################# p. 12 On the 2nd day of November 1827 the first newspaper was issued in Selma. It was titled the "Selma Courier" and the second inside page contained a marriage notice by Rev. Charles Crowe of ELIJAH TABER and MISS SUNNAH SIMS duaghter of Redick Sims. ################################################################ p.142 1811-18 - The company (Selma Land Company) employed Redick Sims, who had been engaged by the Government in running out the wild lands in the Cahaba land district, to survey and lay off a town, and draw numerous plats or maps of the same. ################################################################## So, according to the book, Redick Sims surveyed and layed out the Town of Selma.
