I am Lynda Cormier Rector, great granddaughter of Newton Franklin King who was born about 1834 in Alabama and died about September 1876 in Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. He married Sarah Ann Stakes, daughter of Henry Stakes and Hester Lamb. She was born about 1838 in Ohio, and died about 1883 in Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. Newton Franklin King had a brother, Thomas F. King, born in Alabama, April 1835 and died September 06, 1908 in Bell County, Texas. Both Newton and Thomas King joined the C. S. A. Louisiana Infantry , Thomas, at Camp Moore (near Minden, Louisiana), June 23, 1861, and Newton at Camp Pratt (near New Iberia, Louisiana), July 17, 1862. Newton's residence was listed as Selma, Alabama in his military record and Thomas' was listed as Minden, Louisiana. I am searching for the parents of Newton and Thomas King.
