In 1879, there was a James Sample who was clothier and tailor in Selma. And in the Live Oak Cemetery there is a John A. Sample, 1873/1941 buried along with his wife, Laura B. Eddy Sample, b. 3 July 1879 and d. 2 Sept 1936. This information was taken from the book," Selma, Her Institutions and Her Men" and from the listings for the Live Oak Cemetery in the City of Selma.
