    3. Howard, Since you know which unit he belonged to, you need to get his military records which most of the time will tell you what happened to him. I've had great luck with Family Treemaker doing look-ups which don't take very long and also you can go to the Alabam Archives and they do military look-ups which take a lot longer. all I have is the listings and the units.
