    1. Re: [ALDALLAS-L] Molette's Bend - Orrville, Alabama
    2. Rosenelle, Hello, I wished I could give you some information in return for what I am about to ask. Could you please share what you have on Molette's ben(d) including pictures with me??? Without taking a lot of space to explain-My great grandfather's name was Charles (Stonewall) JACKSON Mann. His mother was Eliza Susan Molette (Mann) Harrison (b. 1848 d 1931)- granddaughter of William P(age) Molette. Eliza and her second husband William Henry Harrison and infant child are buried at Molette's ben(d) along with William P -his wife Margaret, son John and his wife Susan. Charles was estranged from the family from birth as it appears unitl he was about 14 when he showed up in Alabama un announced. I gathered from land, census and tax records that the plantation had to have been large. I also gathered that the family was well placed in society- which makes my great grandfather's story even more odd other than how else would a well placed southern family handle an unwanted child???There is conflicting stories as to if Charles was born at Mollete's Bend or in Germany and his year of birth- some in the family say he was born in 1871, others say 1875 but they all agree it was in May. Eliza had a brother Charles Caldwell Molette that died age 16 so we figured that is where the name Charles came from- But Jackson was/is a mystery. Most of his life he was called Charles Stonewall Jackson so we figured Stonewall Jackson was the reason- but my aunts and uncles say the Stonewall came from his temperment- he was stubborn as a mule and about as hard headed as one. Those traits must be genetic because my father who was also named Charles Jackson Mann took after him to a T. Thanks for any thing you can share- Sandra Mann Oakley

    1. Re: [ALDALLAS-L] 1830 Dallas Co census
    2. Hi Linda: Charlotte sent me the actual census for 1830, but I've only gotten a written copy of the 1840. I fully agree that it is quite suspicious about the "D. Groves", and another thing, my Isaac McElroy is also shown in the 1840 census, and he was Davenport Graves' father-in-law. The written copy for D. Groves I have shows him to be in the white male category 40-50. By 1840 he would have been about 54, so this is what is throwing me off. Would you mind checking again for me to see if it really might show him in the 50-60 category. And, I understand, mistakes were made. And, I probably mentioned before, I found a record where Davenport was witnessing a will in late 1840 in Dallas Co, so I know he was around. I really do appreciate your help, more than I can say. Still have to find him (Davenport Graves) in 1840, and prove his wife died that year. I know he witnessed a will in Dallas Co in late 1840, but I don't think (not sure) he shows in the census. 3. Would someone on the list who has access to the 1850 Dallas Co. census please look up Thomas H. McDonald (McDonnold) for me. My Thomas H. McD disappeared from Overton Co., TN. in the 1840's and was sued by his wife for deserting her and the children. As an uncle of his died in AL., I thought it possible this might be he. Thanks in advance, Joyce Stover
