What a marvelous idea. All of my family was in Dallas County during the War, so I'm sure they fought in various units. I'm trying to gather all the names of the males of eligible fighting age and find out which units they were in. Anything I find out, I will certainly share, if it is something you would be interested in. Will you include muster rolls and unit histories in your book? Thanks for doing the work. Jim - thanks so much for the help on my ancestor, Menzo Watson. With the information you gave me, I was able to contact the Archives in Montgomery. It turns out that he was from New York and moved to Cahaba just a few years before the onset of The War. He fought for the Confederacy, of course! Now, I'm seeing what I can learn from the New York State Archives. I have another ancestor I'm hoping you'll be able to do a look-up on. His name was Atlas Jones Martin. He may have gone by A.J. Martin. We have never heard of anything concerning his Civil War Service. He was born in 1820, so he would have been in the right range to be a soldier. He died well into old age, so I'm assuming he was healthy. He was a wealthy landowner and farmer, so we wonder if maybe his "service" was to supply the troops with food. Would there be any indication of that sort of thing? Or, maybe he was a regular soldier, but it was never discussed. He didn't lose his land after the war, so maybe he signed the oath and just didn't want any of it discussed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, again! Hello everyone, I am interested in collecting information on Dallas County's Civil War soldiers. I am going to put together a book of letters, diaries, and photos of men who fought between 1861-1865. If anyone has some of their ancestors information, I would appreciate an email. We are also planning to search archival collections from across U.S. for a complete as possible story of the county's record in the War. Thanks, Ernest Dollar
To Ernest Dollar: I have information on a group of Woods cousins (from Dallas County) who served and/or were killed in the Confederate Army. A diary kept by Edward Woods (called "Colonel Ed Woods") of Selma is extant, but it does not contain much information on his Confederate service. Elizabeth Woods Reid (an aunt of Colonel Edward Woods) had five sons who served in the Confederate army, and -- as far as I can determine -- only one survived the war. What kind of information are you seeking, and in what form? Bestr wishes, Bob Parrott, Knoxville TN

Charles Andrew Patterson died 13 Sep 1893 in Selma. He was a carpenter and lived in the city of Selma. Does anyone know in which cemetery he probably would have been buried? Is there an index somewhere to those buried in the various cemeteries? Also, one last question, is there an 1890 census available for Selma? I need to find his family and I can't find that particular census. Thanks so much for helping me out. Carol Carol Patterson Davis Orange Park, Florida

Seeking information on William Henry Saddler/Sadler. William died 16 December 1844 in Bogue Chitto, Dallas County, Alabama. He was probably from the Abberville District of South Carolina. I have noticed that a William H. Sadler was listed in both the 1820 & 1830 South Carolina Census. William probably moved to Alabama some times after his son William (my GG Grandfather) was born. He was born in approximately 1833 in South Carolina. His younger brother was born in Alabama in 1838. Any information on this family will be appreciated. Bo Sadler
