He's 81 and remembers the Southern and the L&N yard. Recalls they used to put trains on a turntable and manually turn them to change direction and that the train station was on Broad St. near the candy factory. My cousin in Selma (who's 85) worked for one of the RRs. Will check with him too. B.J. Smothers
Is there someone in Selma that can tell me about the Southern Railroad maintenance shop roundhouse that was on Water Ave. It was there at least until the late 1940's early 50's. Even the SRR museum denies knowledge of this facility, could it have been the L&N, I don't think so. I know it was there, my dad would take me there on Sunday afternoon and also to the locomotive grave yard that was alongside of the L&N line that crossed the river. Thanks for any help. Cleve Irby

Hi Everyone! I am looking for information about David Henry Craig Cleveland. He was born in Uniontown, AL in 1866. I know he and his parents lived in Sardis, AL in the 1880's. He married my great-great grandmother, Etta Lecil Acker, in 1888 (?) in Selma or Sardis. I know the complete family history of the Ackers. Unfortunately I don't even know the names of David's parents. Also, I am interested in the history of Sardis and the cotton mill in Selma. Thanks. Katie

Hello-- I am trying to get more info on my 3rd ggrandfather, Thomas Peter Goolsby STEPHENS who died in Dallas County in Feb. 1836. He was married to Mary Ann Jane Taylor and they had moved to Dallas County from Oglethorpe County, GA. Mary remarried to Lewis C. Gaines after Thomas' death. I believe that Thomas was either a dentist or doctor and am trying to verify if he worked as such while living in Dallas County??? Would also like to know if he is buried in Dallas County? If anyone is doing research on same family or knows any resources available that may help me, I would appreciate it. Happy Hunting, Cindi Wright CWrightMSW@aol.com

Hi List -- I was so glad to find out about this new list. I have been searching for information on my great-grandfather for several months and have posted many inquiries with no success so far. So Maybe someone on this list could help. I am searching for info on the parents and siblings of Rufus COCHRAN b. 7-8-1858 Selma, AL d. 4-26-1939 Waco, TX. I know his father was born in S. Carolina and his mother in Alabama. I have the index for the 1860 census which lists several COCHRANs, but I haven't found him. I live in Dayton, OH. and as I do Income Taxes, I can't do too much research until after April 15th. Then I plan to go the Cincinnati Library where they have the complete federal census for all states. Anyway, any help given would be appreciated. Hi All, I found this list last night and here I am seeking your help this morning. I am trying to identify the parents of David Moore, my gggg grandfather. He was born in Georgia in 1789 and migrated to Dallas County probably after his marriage in 1822 to Martha ______, who was also born in Georgia. They had eight children Tyre Glenn (my ggg grandfather) Lucy, Joseph, David, William, Luther, Nathan & Mary. David was a Primitive Baptist Minister and owned a 200 acre farm near Tyler. The land is now owned by an Edward Moore I believe. If anyone knows how I could contact him please let me know. Also if you know anything about my ancestors above please let me I would be grateful for the information. Thanks! Chuck Hanberry <CHanberry@aol.com>
