    1. [ALDALLAS-L] Fuller Lewis Kendrick
    2. Trish
    3. Hi, My grandfather, Fuller Lewis Kendrick was born in Dallas county March 8, 1879. His father was William Harvey Kendrick, and because William Harvey Kendrick was married three times, there is some confusion about who my grandfather's mother was. One of the wives was Ann George and another was named Elizabeth Hanshaw. The third remains unknown for the time being. Between the 4 of them I was told there were many children, mostly boys. My grandfather married Bessie Pearl Dunn, b. July 17, 1883 in Cheatham Co TN. They were married in B'ham in 1905. I've been trying to find more about the Kendricks and where they came from for quite a while now, with no success. I did find a bunch of Kendricks in Conecuh Co, but haven't been able to make any connection. Any help finding my family will be so greatly appreciated! Trish

    1. [ALDALLAS-L] Re: New To List
    2. Hi, am new to list and originally from Bessemer AL, but lived in Selma in mid 60's. My mother was from "around there" somewhere. My grandparents were Willie James Suttles, 1883-1955, and Farriest Gertrude Milstead, 1890-1950. They both died in Bessemer. Farriest's parents were James Pink Milstead, 1862-1936, and Susan Jane Bates, 1866-1935. Susan Jane's parents were J.C. Bates, 1839-1923, and Emma C. ?, 1854-1923. They are all buried in a row in Plantersville, AL. Willie's parents were Albert Daniel Suttles, 1854-?, and Malvin Hill Moseley, ??. I know they lived for awhile in Perry Co. Any cousins out there? 1. [ALDALLAS-L] Francis AVANT and his descendants
    2. Carol Smith
    3. Francis AVANT was born ca.1775-1790 in Marion County, SC(or nearby county) He married Elizabeth CASE ca. 1808-1809. Elizabeth CASE is the daughter of John & Lucy CASE. Offspring of the couple are: Catherine M. Avant, b. 1810 who m. David D. Dumas; Mary Avant b. bef 1814 who m. James Downes; Nancy Ann Avant b.15 Jan 1815 who married John G. O'Neal; Lucy T. Avant b. ca. 1818 who married William H. Hall; Nathan T. Avant b. 1820 who married Theodocia Wilson and John C. Avant b. 1822 who married Nancy D. Meredith. I am seeking information on Francis AVANT's parentage. Believe him to be the son of John AVANT who was the son of Jonathan AVANT who was the son of Caleb AVANT. Looking for confirmation. Francis AVANT died before 1828 leaving his widow, his oldest daughter and his other 5 minor children. At some point between John C. Avant's birth (youngest child) and 1828 the family left Marion County, SC and made their way to Dallas County, AL. I find court records of Elizabeth CASE AVANT having a guardian appointed for the minor children when she remarried a Charles LEOPARD ca. 1827./1828. Seeking information that would pinpoint Frances AVANT's death date and estate. Also seeking more information on this Charles LEOPARD that Elizabeth (Francis Avant's widow) married. They had two children William and Charles born in Dallas County, AL ca. 1828-1832. The two Avant son's Nathan and John moved to south Arkansas and I believe so did Lucy and her husband William Hall. Later the two half-brothers, William and Charles Leopard joined their Avant half-brothers in Arkansas. Suggestions and information welcome. Will share what information I have on his descendants. 1. [ALDALLAS-L] WARNING
    2. Ken Sartin
    3. I am posting this to warn others about problems with Census Microfilm Expeditors . I was lured to order several microfilm copies from this company with "guarantees" of "speedy delivery" and "low price" . My order was placed in October of 1998 and as of this posting I have not received the order or a refund after numerous contacts with Steven Jensen at this firm . In his occasional replies he repeatedly gave false information to me as to the status of the order and cashed the check when mentioned stopping payment on it ( dumb on my part ) .I have copies of all documents and correspondences for those interested . Complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and the United States Postal Inspectors , they have informed me that even they can't order this company to give a refund , but may seek criminal charges . I guess small claims court is next . If you are seeking genealogy resources......consider my experiences with this "Firm". Thank you , Kenneth Sartin

    1. [ALDALLAS-L] Sons of Elizabeth Woods Reed (Reid)
    2. I'm searching for information about/any clues concerning three sons of Elizabeth Woods Reed/JosiahReed. Elizabeth Woods and Josiah Reed arrived in Dallas County ca 1818 from Kentucky, and married shortly thereafter. They had the following children: Cynthia Lorain (b 1825), James Edward (b ca 1827), William Luther (b ca 1828), Martha Elizabeth (b ca 1831), Emily Jane (b ca 1833), and three others sons, Cyrus Byers, Finis Ewing and John. Cynthia and James Edward went "west" in 1847, and settled in Louisiana. William Luther also went west in 1847, but returned to Dallas County the following year. Martha Elizabeth married H.H. Harrison in Dallas County in 1855. Emily married David Russell, and remained in Dallas County, at least until 1870. What happened to William Luther, Cyrus, Ewing, and John? Cyrus was living in the household of his cousin Margaret Isabella Woods Houston, in Bibb County, in 1870? But what happened to him afterward? Were William Luther, Cyrus, Finis Ewing and John in the Confederate army? Were William Luther or John or Ewing killed during 1861-1865? Their father, Josiaha Reed, died, probably in 1849-1850; his will was probated in 1850. Their mother, Elizabeth Woods Reed, died on 3 July 1867, age 68; she was buried in the Lenabon (Mt Vernon) Cemetery, near Summerfield. The estate documents of Elizabeth Reed named as heirs only Cyrus Byers, Emily Russell, Martha Harrison, and the children of Cynthia Armstrong and James Edward Woods, both dead by 1867. What happened to these Reed sons -- William Luther, Finish Ewing, John, apparently dead by 1867? And what happened to Cyrus Byers after 1870? Any clues or hints or records would be greatly appreciated. I am glad to share a sizeable Reed/Woods file. Thank you, Robert E. Parrott, Knoxville TN.

    2. doc jones
    3. I am researching William Hutchinson NORRIS, a well known figure in Dallas County circa 1830's-40's-50's. In the late 1830's he was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives and during 1840's, he was a State Senator. No bit of information is too trivial, and my main goal is to find the identity of his mother. He left his parents home in Georgia when he was about 18 or so (1818) and moved to Alabama and resided in Wilcox, Perry, Dallas and finally Monroe Counties. In 1865, he took all of his family, with the exception of his son Francis Johnson NORRIS and migrated to Brazil where he died in 1893. Any information will be greatly appreciated....C B Jones, Melbourne, Fl (He was my 2nd g grandfather)
