    1. Re: [ALDALLAS-L] ROLL CALL: GRUMBLES, ELLIS
    2. My husbands gr gr grandmother, Nancy A. GRUMBLES born Sept 2, 1846 is from the Old Town area of Dallas County. Nancy married James ELLIS (of Tennessee?) . Nancy and James left Alabama sometime after 1880. They are both buried in the Red Oak Cememtery in Red Oak (Latimer County) Oklahoma. I currently show Nancy's parents as William Wiley Grumbles and Nancy Covington. I am still searching for possible parents for James ELLIS. I find James and Nancy on the 1870 census, Dallas County. The census indicates James was born in Tennesse. James and Nancy are living next door to another James ELLIS, born in Alabama per the census. Could this be father and son? Thanks, Chris

Agnes McGough Johnson was a younger sister of my g- g-grandmother, Mary McGough Armstrong (12 Sept 1793 - 1 March 1885) , married to James Harrison Armstrong (14 Aug 1796 - 3 March 1859). Other siblings were Elizabeth (Betsey), John, James, and Robert Joseph (Robert Jr.), children of Robert McGough/Agnes McWhorter McGough. I have a considerable file of material on the McGoughs, all of which you may already have, but if you do not, and are interested, I'd be glad to share it with you. Agnes McGough Johnson is the one member of this family about whom I know very little, and I would appreciate any information about her that you could share. I have the names of her children as listed in the census, and that's all. And I know almost nothing about Lloyd F. Johnson, although I have suspected that Agnes' brother Robert Joseph's wife, Mary P. Johnson, was a sister/relative of his. I'm delighted to make this connection with you. Do you have a death date for Agnes Johnson? And for Lloyd F Johnson? Old Mary McGough Armstrong moved (with a large family company) to Louisiana in 1847, and settled there. She died, at age 91, in the home of my grandparents at the age of 91, in March 1885. My father (born in 1874) remembered her well, and listened to her stories about the McGoughs (in Ireland and afterward) when he was a small boy, especially during her last winter, 1884-1885. I have the personal possessions she left when she died there -- books, photographs, a walking stick, hand-knitted stocking, shoes, clothing, nightcap. I look forward to hearing from you again. Let me know if you'd like some of the information on the McGoughs, etc. which I have. I'd appreciate having a listing of the children, etc. of Agnes/Lloyd Johnson. Incidentally, I am acqauinted with several African-American families in Louisiana who are descendants of slaves named Johnson who came on the 1847 caravan. Mary Armstrong bought a black man named Shadrack (Shadrick) Johnson from ehr sister Agnes shortly before they left Alabama. Best wishes, Bob Parrott, Knoxville. . --part0_922154000_boundary--

He married unknown and then moved to MS. Their son married a RAWLS and named one of their sons after the General. 2. W. Jordan Fitzhugh
    3. Hi: My great-great grandfather, George William Carvill, was a planter near Carlowville, in Dallas County in the mid 1800's (about 1835-1843). I'm looking for maps of the area from that time period. We have recently discovered a treasure trove of letters from GWC and his family members to relatives in London, written from 1834 to 1867 (the originals are in the Western Historical Manuscript Collection, at the University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri). I have copies of those letters, and we are in the process of transcribing them and posting them to our family web site. If you are interested, you are welcome to link to that site at http://www.fitzhugh.org. In any case, please feel free to visit the site. Thanks for your time. --Jordan Fitzhugh

    3. Hi B.J. and thanks for the opportunity! My only surname in this area is PROCTOR. I know there were several in Dallas County. My grandmother WILLIE PROCTOR was b.16 Aug 1878 in Sunny South (Wilcox County). She married my grandfather MARTIN HAMPTON HOLLER on 4 Sep 1901 in Marengo County. And that is literally ALL the information I have on Willie ... no family, no siblings. But knowing she was born and lived in southwest Alabama, I sincerely feel it's only a matter of time before we make some connections here! 1. Re: [ALDALLAS-L] ROLL CALL: EDWARDS, RAND, & WILLIAMS
    2. Greetings: I have been working on my EDWARDS, RAND, and WILLIAMS genealogy for awhile now. However, to avoid list congestion, I shall represent my RAND ancestors. I am seeking any connections/descendants/relations of Willis RAND, my paternal great, great grandfather. Oral family history has it that Willis may have come from Oklahoma (pending verification). As it stands, Willis RAND's known residence was Dallas Co, AL. He was born during the "enslavement" period ca. 1850. Willis married a Fannie (maiden name unknown; also born ca. 1850). Of thier sons, my paternal great grandfather, was Archie/Arch RAND born ca. 1870 (Dallas Co. AL). Archie eventually married Ella EDWARDS. Joseph RAND (b. 1911; still living) is one of thier sons'. Joseph was born in Safford, Dallas Co. AL. Now, Rev. Joseph RAND married Bessie WILLIAMS (b. 3 Sep 1915; d. 10 Sep 1965) of Safford, Dallas, Co. AL. Both Joseph and Bessied relocated to San Francisco, CA in 1942. They had three children, two daughters and one son--Delores, Artheia, and Cleophas respectively. Cleophas Clyde RAND was my father (d. 26 Jul 1986). Do these names ring a bell? Let me know. Thank you so much! Karim ALDRIDGE-RAND

    1. [ALDALLAS-L] Roll Call--Thomas E. SAMPLE
    2. Hello Everyone, I am searching for the parents, siblings or any relatives of Thomas E. SAMPLE. He was born 20 Apr 1851 in, I believe, Dallas Co. AL. but I have no proof. Here is what I know about him..... In 1882, he married Savilla Hamilton, in Owensboro, Daviess Co., KY. In the announcement of their wedding in the Owensboro paper, it states that he was from Selma, Alabama. They had 2 daughters...Nannie Bee Sample (my grandmother) born 25 Jul 1883 in Owensboro, KY. and Jessie Sample, born 1885. She died in 1899. Thomas SAMPLE worked for the O&N railroad (Owensboro & Nashville) while in Kentucky. On 13 Aug 1886, he was killed in Russellville, Logan Co., KY when he was thrown from a flat car while the train was in motion. It ran over him and killed him. He is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Russellville, KY. My grandparents moved from Russellville, KY to Birmingham, AL about 1903. On the 1910 Census of Jefferson Co., AL., it shows my grandmother's father was born in Alabama. Any information about the SAMPLE family in Dallas County will be appreciated. Myra Marsh in Plano, TX.
