    1. Selma area - Research help!
    2. Victor Crawford, Jr.
    3. Hello, I am trying to find a way to have some research done in Dalas Co. (Selma) and I was hoping that someone could give me some advice or recommend someone to do the work for me. I need to have several look ups at the library, including newspaper obits, and at the courthouse, wills. They were in the county from 1840-1900 I also have family buried in the county, near Selma, but don't know where and would like to find out. I believe they might be in a small family cemetery. The family name I am interested in is: WADDELL, William and Eleanor, and thier sons, Nicholas and Rev. John Cooper Waddell. Also, GIVHANs and John CANTLEY Of course, I am willing to pay someone or exchange research, as I live in Maryland, but unfortunately, have no plans to make it to Alabama. I am also looking for help in Lowndes & Macon County, AL. Thanks! -- Victor Crawford, Jr. vLc@cc-m.com 8812 Sixty-second Avenue Berwyn Hts., MD 20740

    1. [ALDALLAS-L] Looking for the Chapmans of Selma, Alabama
    2. [x-posted from the afrigeneas@msstate.edu list] Greetings: Does anyone have any information on these CHAPMAN's of Selma, Dallas Co., Alabama? Chaps From: WmHarold@aol.com Full-name: WmHarold Date: Sat, 9 Oct 1999 20:53:57 EDT Subject: Re: Looking for the Chapmans of Selma Alabama To: HCHAPS2@aol.com I did some checking with my aunt who is the oldest living relative that I know. She told me that our family comes from Dallas County. My Great Grand Fathers' name is Howard Chapman. He had offspring. I only know of two. My grandfathers Name is Paul Scales Chapman and he had a sister named Sadie. My grandmothers name is Ella Mae Smith Chapman who came from Perry County. Her first child was not from my grandfather Paul Scales. Grandma and Pop as they were affectionally called had 7 sons, Paul, Clarence, Howard, Marshall, Nolan, William Henry(my dad) and Nathaniel. All of them migrated from Alabama and have lived in New York, Virginia. Clarence died in Tennessee. Howard died in Alabama. He is the only one without children. My search has stopped at my great grandfather. I have found many possibilities but no firm leads. The Chapmans that I have discovered are mostly white and in some cases very possibly relatives but you know the deal about owning up to the truth. Hopes this helps ps There are no records of my grandparents marriage at the courthouse in Selma which is the county seat of Dallas county. Sorry about the delay. Hope this helps and thanks for those helpful links.

    1. [ALDALLAS-L] MONTGOMERY
    2. Mark Montgomery
    3. MONTGOMERY, Andrew (ca. 1780-1860) NC SC AL also Doherty/Dougherty I am trying to find proof that Andrew MONTGOMERY b. ca. 1785 Mecklenburg County NC d. ca. 1860 Summerfield, Dallas County AL was the father of my great-great grandfather, William MONTGOMERY b. 22 FEB 1807 probably in SC near the NC border d. 13 MAY 1891 Choctaw County MS. Andrew MONTGOMERY was the son of James MONTGOMERY b. ca. 1735/45 Lancaster County PA d. Mecklenburg County NC 1793 and Ann Woods b. ca. 1753 Lancaster County d. Mecklenburg County 1793. James MONTGOMERY was the son of John MONTGOMERY b. ca. 1710/15 Northern Ireland d. ca. 1788 Mecklenburg County NC and Martha MONTGOMERY b. ca. 1715/20 Northern Ireland d. ca. 1799 Mecklenburg County NC who immigrated to Lancaster County PA ca. 1735. Andrew MONTGOMERY married Eleanor/Ellen Doherty/Dougherty b. ca. 1800 NC. They were married by 1825 when they sold 116 acres inherited from Eleanor's father Robert Doherty. Their children all born in NC were: James Newton b. ca. 1828, Samuel W. b. ca. 1829, Mary A.L. b. ca. 1831, Martha J. b. ca. 1833, Sarah R. b. ca. 1835, Hannah A. b. ca. 1837, Ellen S. b. ca. 1839, John A. b. ca. 1841. They all moved to Summerfield, Dallas County AL in 1845. Since Eleanor Doherty was 15 years younger than Andrew, it is possible that she was his second wife. I am searching for a possible first wife for Andrew who may have been the mother of my great-great grandfather William MONTGOMERY b. 22 FEB 1807 probably in SC near the NC border d. 13 MAY 1891 Choctaw County MS. William lived somewhere in Alabama during the 1830's before permanently settling in Choctaw County MS ca. 1838/39. Any leads will be greatly appreciated. I will gladly pay for any postage or photocopying costs and will pass along any new information that I receive. Please send information to: Mark Montgomery Box 5629 Arlington VA 22205 Email: mmontgomery@posmenat.com Telephone: 703-757-1108
