I would like to correspond with descendants of William Dennis (b. abt 1795 in SC; d. 1862 in Dallas County, AL) and his wife, Sarah Parnell (b. 1800 in Georgia). This couple married in Putnam County, GA, in 1816, and were living in Dallas County, AL, about 1830. Their son Jesse M. Dennis married his cousin, Mary E. Dennis (daughter of Simeon Dennis of Hancock, Putnam, and Monroe Counties in Georgia). Jesse M. Dennis and Mary E. Dennis joined her parents in Columbia County, AR, in the early 1850's. Another son, Joseph M. Dennis, married first Rebecca Mathias (Mathis) in Dallas County, but by 1854, Joseph had moved to Panola County, TX. He remarried to Martha Snelson Heath and about 1859 joined his brother in Columbia County, AR. Other children of William and Sarah Parnell Dennis include: Margaret (married Lewis Davis); Daniel (married Piety Belser); Martha (married Henry Averyt); Jeptha (married Martha Ann Belser); Amanda (married Daniel Averyt); Elizabeth (married James B. Hines). Jane Brazell Sisolak tsisolak@swbell.net
Kay, I have a little information on the Mathews-Stuart family connections in Wilcox-Dallas Counties. If you will give me a little more information, I will check to see if there is a connection. Can you tell me if you might have any information on the workers of The Western of Alabama out of Selma, AL. I am trying to find my great grandfather. The only listing I can find of him, is in a Selma Directory for 1913-1914. He was listed Charles B. Goin and as a Engineer of the Western of Al. If you don't have this information Do you have a idea of where I might be able to find it? His wifes maiden name was Scott. She is buried in Selma, but with no head stone. We have no idea where he was laid to rest. Any information you might be able to help with would be greatly appreciated. Thank You- Mark Goin

Hello, my name is Brandon Wallace, and I am looking for any records of a John Thompson Roper who settled in Dallas County from GA or SC, and later settled in Autauga County. He was a white methodist minister. If anyone has any records or knowledge of this person please email me at bwallace@huntingdon.edu Thank you very much.
I'm looking for my great grandmother whose name was "Grandma Sue". Her birth is estimated to be about 1850. She had at least two children. One's name was William Cosby who eventually married Pellie Melton of Perryville, Alabama. His estimated birth is about 1875. He died in Perryville, Alabama in 1953. She also had another son about 6 years younger named Ben Cosby. His birth year was 1880/1881. I do not know anything about Ben or William except that they both worked in Perryville, Alabama. I believe that great grandmother "Sue lived in Selma, Alabama. I also believe that William and Ben may have been born in Selma, Alabama. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
The "A Family Called Fort" does have considerable information regarding the Harrell family since B.J. Fort married Charlotte Harrell and his sister Nancy Prince Fort married her brother Hardiman Israel Harrell. The parents of these two Harrells were Gabriel Holmes Harrell and Frances "Fanny" Harrell who brought their family to Dallas County from Bertie County, NC, in 1818. I am looking for descendants of the Harrells. W. G. Hayes wghayes@net-magic.net
The Harrell family settled in 1818 between Forts (now Marion Junction) and the Cahaba River. Originally shown on maps as Harrell's Crossroads, the name was shortened on later maps to Harrell. I have inherited the Elias Fort Harrell family bible (and not much else). I would like to correspond with other descendants of Elias Fort Harrell, as well as descendants of his father, Hardiman Israel Harrell, and grandfather, Gabriel Holmes Harrell. W. G. Hayes
W. G. Hayes: You probably already have a copy but if not you should try to find a copy of the book "A FAMILY CALLED FORT" by Homer T. Fort, Jr. and Drucilla Stovall Jones, published in 1970 by The West Texas Printing Company, Milland, Texas. There is quite a bit of information on your line of the Harrell family. They were related to my line of the Rasco family which also came to Dallas County in the early 1820's and owned land between Marion Junction (Forts) and Harrell's Crossroads. James R. Rasco
Don, my great grandmother was Susan Jane Bates, 1866-1935, daughter of J.C., 1839-1923, and Emma Bates 1864-1923. They lived in Dallas Co and are buried in Plantersville, AL. Any connection? Ruby
Alexander W. Brown married Catherine Ella Bates in Dallas County AL on 01 Mar 1871. I have a near complete record of their descendants but am looking for information about their parents and siblings. Don Banks // Vicksburg MS
