I am interested in finding anything on a SAMPLE family from the Selma, AL area in the 1850s to 1870s. granydoll@aol.com
I have McCraw in my Tadlock line. The Tadlock's were in Perry Co. mostly but some in Dallas Co. also. You might check Perry Co. and see if they are there. Linda
Thanks Linda, I have been doing that. Still haven't found anything. Arlene
Try looking at McCRAW as well. Sometimes the spelling got confused because of the sounds. Linda
Looking for any information on Pamelia/Permelia McGRAW...date of birth probably abt. 1840 +/- Place of birth unknown. Married in 1860, in Calhoun County, AL to F.Moses McCULLERS. Their son, James Dudley McCULLERS was born in Dallas Co. 13 July 1860. Any information on these people will be most appreciated. Thank you, Arlene Hampton
Arlene, I, too, am tracking McCulloughs. Mine are from Cherokee Co., AL, Blount and Knox Cos in TN.' Your migration from Scotland to Texas to Alabama is unusual. Usually at that time, they landed on the east coast, then made their way westward. There is an excellent site for Civil War information: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Lair/3680/cw/cw.html However, for the bad news, I couldn't find the 30th. Sometimes the regiments were decimated fairly early in the war and the remainders were combined with others and thus are listed with the second regiment. I had this problem with one of my grandpas. Todd Molesworth who runs the web site for the 26th AL Infantry is a good source. He can either tell you or help you find out if there was a combination and what it was. His e-mail address is on the site for the 26th. Good luck. Jane Emde

Thank you for the roster. It gives me more names for leads in tracking down my gg-grandfather, Menzo Watson. The roster is of Company "D" from Calhoun County. I don't suppose anyone out there knows where I can find something exectly like this, but for Company "I" from Dallas and Perry Counties. There were 10 companies in all under the 51st Alabama Cavalry. "A" through "I" and then "K" - no "J." I am seeking any information on F.Moses McCULLERS, Private in Co.E, 30th Alabama Inf. Regiment. He enlisted March 6th in Calhoun Co. AL, was mustered into Confederate Service at Camp Curry,Talledega, AL on March 29, 1862. Was killed in 2nd Manassas Battle. F. Moses was the son of Moses McCULLOUGH. Moses and F. Moses according to family lore, came from Scotland to Texas in/abt. 1837. From Texas they came to AL. There were two other known siblings of F. Moses: James and Charlie. Birthplaces and dates of birth for James and Charlie are not known. F. Moses was married to Pamelia McGRAW, daughter of George McGRAW and Dicey Malone McGRAW. She was possibly born in SC, but that is not known at this time. The son of F. Moses McCullers and Pamelia McGraw was JAMES DUDLEY McCULLERS, b. 1860, Selma, Dallas Co. AL. d. 1939 Calhoun Co. AL. Information on any of the above will be greatly appreciated. Arlene Hampton
I'm looking for a roster of the men serving in the 51st Alabama Cavalry Regiment, Partisan Rangers, Organized at Oxford (Alabama, Calhoun County, I believe) on August 11, 1862, with men from Calhoun, Dallas, Mobile, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Saint Clair, Talladega and Tuscaloosa Counties. Specifically, I'm looking for the enlisted from Company "I" (Dallas/Perry Counties). The Captains of this company were John Robbins and Joseph Seawell. As per an article from THE SELMA REPORTER, dated June 17, 1862, Colonel John Tyler Morgan organized this unit. My gg-grandfather, Menzo Watson, of Cahaba, Alabama, was in this unit. I found lists of the Generals, Colonels, Majors, Captains, and other officers, but not the enlisted. Does anyone know where I might locate this information (preferably via internet)? Thank you for any information anyone has on this unit! speyer@bellsouth.net
Go to your library. They should have a set of books that list of all the soldiers who fought in the Civil War. They don't call the set of books "Civil War" I think the titles say something about the "War of Rebelion" It has been awhile since I looked at the books so I am trying to recall it from memory. If your library has a good local history and genealogy dept. They should have them. Linda

Searching for descendants of John Francis Conoley who came to Dallas Co. in 1833. He married Mary Elizabeth Pitts. They had 7 children; Endora, Louis Alexander, Anna Eliza, John Francis, William Noel, Frank Hamilton, and Douglas Fleming. J.F. Conoley was a merchant, sheriff, lawyer, and judge. He served in the 29th AL Regiment as a Lt. Col. Thanks! Don Conoly dconoly@mindspring.com
I am researching my husband's great grandfather, Elias D. Wright b.Feb 2, 1828 in GA. There is an Elias D. Wright listed on the 1860 census for AL but I don't know what county. Also, there is a Wright listed on the 1850 census for Dallas Co, AL. Are these two the same? His wife's name was Louisiana. Is she the Louisiana Craig listed on the 1850 census at 16 years old for Dallas Co, AL? Elias D. and Louisiana came to Texas some time during the 1860's. It had to be after 1864 for we found where he had bought a Confederate Bond in 1864 in Selma, AL. He died in Texas in 1882. Would appreciate any help. Betty
