I am trying to find proof that Andrew MONTGOMERY b. ca. 1785 Mecklenburg County NC d. ca. 1860 Summerfield, Dallas County AL was the father of my great-great grandfather, William MONTGOMERY b. 22 FEB 1807 probably in SC near the NC border d. 13 MAY 1891 Choctaw County MS. Andrew MONTGOMERY was the son of James MONTGOMERY b. ca. 1735/45 Lancaster County PA d. Mecklenburg County NC 1793 and Ann Woods b. ca. 1753 Lancaster County d. Mecklenburg County 1793. James MONTGOMERY was the son of John MONTGOMERY b. ca. 1710/15 Northern Ireland d. ca. 1788 Mecklenburg County NC and Martha MONTGOMERY b. ca. 1715/20 Northern Ireland d. ca. 1799 Mecklenburg County NC who immigrated to Lancaster County PA ca. 1735. Andrew MONTGOMERY married Eleanor/Ellen Doherty/Dougherty b. ca. 1800 NC. They were married by 1825 when they sold 116 acres inherited from Eleanor's father Robert Doherty. Their children all born in NC were: James Newton b. ca. 1828, Samuel W. b. ca. 1829, Mary A.L. b. ca. 1831, Martha J. b. ca. 1833, Sarah R. b. ca. 1835, Hannah A. b. ca. 1837, Ellen S. b. ca. 1839, John A. b. ca. 1841. They all moved to Summerfield, Dallas County AL in 1845. Sources: researcher William Vaughn Montgomery of Selma AL and 1850 Dallas County AL census. Since Eleanor Doherty was 15 years younger than Andrew, it is possible that she was his second wife. I am searching for a possible first wife for Andrew who may have been the mother of my great-great grandfather William MONTGOMERY b. 22 FEB 1807 probably in SC near the NC border d. 13 MAY 1891 Choctaw County MS. William lived somewhere in Alabama during the 1830's before permanently settling in Choctaw County MS ca. 1838/39. Andrew's first wife may have also been the mother of 2 additional children, Andrew and John who reportedly went to Texas. Researcher Charlotte M. Brett stated that Andrew's sons Andrew, John and William moved to Texas. Any leads will be greatly appreciated. I will gladly pay for any postage or photocopying costs and will pass along any new information that I receive. Please send information to: Mark Montgomery Box 5629 Arlington VA 22205 Email: mmontgomery@rocketmail.com
Hi Cousins, Since we just found my ggggrandmother's maiden name I thought I would post this and see if anyone knows anything of these people. My ggggrandfather James H. ARMSTRONG was born abt. 1817 in South Carolina and died abt 1868 in Nacogdoches County, Texas. He married Jane E. Howie in Feb. 1836 in Dallas County, Alabama. Their first child Samuel Wesley was born September 10, 1838 in Dallas County, Alabama. Does anyone have any connections with this particular branch of the Armstrong or Howie family. Juanetta
GARDNER - ARNETT I am looking for Dallas County connections to my ancestor Joseph Benjamin GARDNER (b 1840 Monroe County GA- d 1895 Shelby County AL), most especially to a Mrs. Martha J. Arnett or Marcy J. Arnett. They were mentioned together in relation to a law firm in Selma (Cauthorn and Coleman?) ca 1890. Joseph Benjamin Gardner was the son of John Gardner and Elizabeth SIKES from Monroe County, GA. My GARDNER family of Shelby County AL and many of the GARDNERs in Dallas County are descended from the same South Carolina Family. I would like to hear from any Dallas County GARDNER researchers. mailto:paige.g.smith@mindspring.com

I have a listing on Kornegay, J. W. --8th AL Cav. Co. F and also a a James H. Kornegay--4th AL Inf. Co.D. If these are the ones you are looking for--then what would be helpful would be to attain their military records. I've used Family Treemaker for look-ups of military records and also the Alabama Archives. Hope this helps, Jim AjusBjus@aol.com wrote: > Both my greatgrandfather and his brother were in the civil war. John Willis > Kornegay and James Kornegay. Miles, Yes, I've been over whelmed by requests! Yes, I have the entire 5th AL Inf.( I assumed you were referring to the Inf but stated regiment). If so. let me know and will scan the listings when time permits as the next two weeks will be very little on the computer. Let me hear from you! Howard, Since you know which unit he belonged to, you need to get his military records which most of the time will tell you what happened to him. I've had great luck with Family Treemaker doing look-ups which don't take very long and also you can go to the Alabam Archives and they do military look-ups which take a lot longer. all I have is the listings and the units. If I can be any further help, let me know. Jim Howard McCollum wrote: > Jim - > > Since you volunteered, I'd be interested in any information you might have > on John H. Any particular Sample as I have about 15 listed as being in the Civil War? Jim GranyDoll@aol.com wrote: > I am interested in finding anything on a SAMPLE family from the Selma, AL > area in the 1850s to 1870s. > > granydoll@aol.com
At the time I wrote, I didn't have any particular SAMPLE name to give you. I have since heard from another member on the list and she gave me a name. (Bless her!) Please try Alexander SAMPLE. According to info she had, he was from Autauga County, AL. Thank you. M. Marsh granydoll@aol.com
By using FTM how exactly do i do that to look up the records? Barbara

Many regimental rosters for Alabama units seem to have been very difficult to find. I have been researching the 5th AL Regiment for five or six years and have found only a partial roster in "Memories of Old Cahaba" by Anna Fry. We are descendants of a line of the MOSELEY family of Dallas County. (Researching them has also been quite challenging from here in Canada!) Do you have a complete 5th Al Regimental roster? Jim - Since you volunteered, I'd be interested in any information you might have on John H. McCollum, who was a sergeant in the 8th Alabama Infantry. We know he enlisted in Radfordsville in 1861 for the duration, but we don't know what happened to him. Family lore says he was killed in the Battle of the Wilderness, but other information says he was still present with his unit at Petersburg in December, 1864. I'd appreciate any info you might have. Hello list, I am new to Dallas Co., AL list. Interested in any information on Dr. Wade Hampton Jones. He was a surgeon in the Civil War. I believe he was originally from SC. He married Rebecca "Belle" Westmoreland. Any information on her would be great too. They lived in a dead ? town Browns Station, AL near Selma, AL. Any leads you may have and are willing to share would be wonderful. The Jones family is a hard one. At least this one is!!! Thank you and happy hunting. Susan Lowe Jones
Both my greatgrandfather and his brother were in the civil war. John Willis Kornegay and James Kornegay. Supposedly they were caught in the battle of the James River in Va. Then were turned loose after swearing not to fight any more. Well they reuped. I would like to know more on them.Company F.2nd. NC.Regt. They lived and died in Houston Co.,Ala.
Thanks, Suzanne, for the info about SAMPLE in Selma. I really appreciate it. M. Marsh granydoll@aol.com
In 1879, there was a James Sample who was clothier and tailor in Selma. And in the Live Oak Cemetery there is a John A. Sample, 1873/1941 buried along with his wife, Laura B. Eddy Sample, b. 3 July 1879 and d. 2 Sept 1936. This information was taken from the book," Selma, Her Institutions and Her Men" and from the listings for the Live Oak Cemetery in the City of Selma.
