Hello, My parents were born on a plantation if Orrville, Alabama. The name of the plantation was Molette's Ben. There were several plantations on this property. Such as, Lee's Field, Mooney's Place, and Lee's Field. My great-great-grand parents, great-grandparents, grand-parents, and mother. I have visited Orrville, Alabama several times. Its as though time stood still. Orrville, Alabama is located about 19 mile south of Selma, Alabama. There is no information on this plantation. However, it one of the largest cotton plantations in the South. If you have any information on Molette's Ben, I would greatly appreciate it. My relatives names were Crompton, Jackson, Pyles, Davenport, and Hunter. Oh, the owner of Molette's Ben was Willie P. Molette. I have researched this for atleast 5 years and have lots of information and pictures. I have also visited Montgomer Archives in Montgomer, Alabama and received good infor. But, I am afraid there is still more information I need. Thank you in advance, Rosenelle

I have some info on Benjamin Vanderslice who married Margaret C. Scott, who had 2 children that married into the Jessop/Jessup family. They came to Dallas/Perry Co. Alabama from Kentucky ca 1820. I have info on the children of Benjamin and Margaret Scott Vanderslice but nothing on the immediate ancestors. I am particularly interested if the Scott or Vanderslice line had any Quaker connection. Margaret Scott was identified as born in VA. Also I am interested in the NC/SC connection. I am descended from Benjamin and Margaret through their daughter, Martha (Patsy) who married Sidner Smith born 1805 in Kentucky. I have not been able to identify his line. Sent to me by Horace Satcher. Can anyone help? Thanks. Ann Torbett
I am looking for anyone with information on my great-great-great-grandfather, Edward Wilkinson Hamilton, that lived in Dallas County from 1834 to 1849. He was a physician, and Dallas County was a "stop" between South Carolina and Camden, Arkansas where he settled. No Hamiltons that I know of died or were born while he was there. Any info is greatly appreciated
I'm interested in a family that appears to have lived in Carowville. Wm. Fatheree married Mary Stuart in 1840 in Wilcox Co. They moved to Dallas Co. by 1841 when their oldest child was born. Of 7 children, only one was a boy, John b. 1853. Other surnmaes include Fickling, and Wood (3 brothers?). Interested in anything you might have to share. Trying to connect these Fatherees to mine. Mathews I am trying to find information on Sam/S. M. Mathews who is believed to be a resident of Dallas county sometime between 1810 and 1850. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please reply to Tom Hullett tom1926@hotmail.com
Hi Listers, Would someone who has access to the 1850 census of Dallas Co. please look up Thomas H. McDonald for me? I have access only to the index. My Thomas H. McDonald (McDonnold) was born prior to 1800 and married Sarah Turner in Overton Co., TN. The 1842 court records of that county state that Sarah is asking for a divorce, as Thomas deserted her more than 2 years prior to that, and is not a resident of the state. Thomas had an uncle, James McDonald, who died in AL. in about 1820, and I thought perhaps he had gone to live with relatives there. Many thanks! Sincerely, Joyce Stover

Hi Jim: I've just gotten some info in the last couple of days that said that Providence Church actually merged with Orrville congregation in the mid-1800's, so I'm wondering if your church is the same one. I believe this church near the Five Points area is still in existence, although still don't know what kind, if any, of the old records might be around. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar. I'm not familiar with the area, so can't describe it too well. Leslie S. Hill
Providence Baptist Church must have existed in the early 1900s as that is where my daddy was baptized. However, the building no longer exists, though the cemetery does. What is really irritating is that someone stole the church records from the library in Selma. A ggggrandfather of mine was one of the founders, and I would like to see if there are any old records from the church which might give info on dates of death for other family members, place of burial, etc. Any help will be appreciated. Hi Suzanne: I'll do it--looking for any Deed Records for a land sale by a Davenport Graves between the dates of 1840-1843. Haven't written the county people yet, don't have an exact date for them to look under, and I know how "reluctant" they are to search, translation File 13. I do not live anywhere near a larger library that might have indexes for lookups. Thanks again to any and all of you! Leslie Hill LHill42731@aol.com
Dear Leslie, There used to be a Mrs. Eleanor Faulkenberry who did some look ups and other genealogy chores for me, but I am not sure she does it any more. She was very reliable and very reasonable costwise. She would work at the library a lot and they knew her well there. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if she is even still living. If anyone knows, please let me know. She was a lovely, kind lady. Dear Leslie, Have I miss the name of the ancestor you are searching for? I have found that if you just mention the name of the ancestor, you might happen up on someone who has him in a file somewhere. Just a suggestion. Good luck in your quest. Thanks Mary, I'll write them and see if they will look up for me. Leslie Hill
Hi: I have searched online on the Dallas Co website, but can't see that any index for deeds has been added to the site. My 3rd greatgrandfather owned land in Dallas Co at least as late as 1840. He was in AR by 1843. I am trying to find a record of any sale of land he did during this period, but don't have dates. I haven't written the county yet, I've been told their old records are in very bad disarray, and little is often found. Would anyone have any ideas how to best search for this? Thanks-- Leslie S. Hill LHill42731@aol.com
Hi: Does anyone know who I could contact to see if there is an index that has been done for Providence and Orrville cemeteries? I am trying to find someone who died in 1840. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Leslie Hill LHill42731@aol.com
Interested in sharing information on LaPorte family, which included a step-son Louis Lawall. Louis married first Julia (last name unknown?). Louis mother's maiden name was Ruppenthal. Her brothers were in the area at one time. Mary Davis
Would anyone on the list know how to get in touch with the "Senior Citizen" Mr. Swift who runs the information center in Selma. Thanks, Arlene Hampton
