Hi Alice. My name is John Wunner and I've been working with Margaret Murphy in researching the Moore family. Margaret copied me on your emails, so I thought I'd jump in and tell you what else we know. We first find Spencer Bobo Moore in Gwinnett County, Georgia, in the 1840 Census (indexed as Spencer B. Moore). He is living next to Austin Moore who we suspect was his brother because of the closeness in age (they were both in the 20-30 group) and the fact that Spencer named one of his sons Austin (and in turn, Austin named one of his sons Spencer). Also, in Austin Moore's entry, there is a female aged 50-60 who must have been their mother (also implying that their father had died before this 1840 Census). Unfortunately we don't have any idea who Spencer's parents were, because by the 1850 Census, Spencer Moore's family is in Benton County, Alabama (but Spencer is not with them) and Austin Moore is in Randolph County, Alabama. But their "mother" is not with either of them....so we have no first name for her. It looks like Spencer died before the time of the 1860 Census...so that doesn't help. We don't really know for sure exactly when Spencer Bobo Moore was born...1815-1818 would be our best guess based on the age of his wife and children. And we only know where he was born from later Censuses where his birthplace was recorded for his children's entries....and that is sometimes North Carolina and sometimes South Carolina. To further muddy things up, in both the 1850 and 1860 Censuses, Austin Moore says he was born in Georgia!!! But at least his age was consistent with a birthyear of 1818-1819. Maybe with the additional information that "our" Spencer Bobo Moore had a brother named Austin might help link our family to your tree.
