    1. Phelix Joseph Young and wife Nannie in Cullman Co. in 1910
    2. STEVE AND JUDY SANDERS
    3. Phelix Joseph Young was born July 27, 1887, died March 7,1950 and is buried in Union Grove Cemetery in Jefferson Co., Alabama which I think is near Adamsville, AL. His wife was Nannie who was born May 28, 1888 and died April 5, 1948 and is buried in Union Grove Cemetery. I really don't think they had children, but not sure. None were listed with them in any census that I found them which was 1910 in Cullman Co., AL., 1920 in Jefferson Co., AL. (Adamsville) and 1930 Jefferson Co., AL. (Adamsville). Phelix J. Youngs wife, Nannie, was a Williard/Willard and they married in Cullman Co., AL. about 1905. I think they lived in Cullman Co., AL. in 1910 and he was listed as Joseph F. Young. His mother was living with them and she was listed as Lizzie Wales/Waler?? Also 2 half sisters were listed in the household: Leithy Wales/Waler?? and Martha Wales/Waler?? Would anyone have any knowledge of these people---Young's, Williard's or Wale's?? Judy Sanders

    1. Aged Infidelity, 1894
    2. The Blount County News-Dispatch, Thursday, June 14, 1894 A Cullman Muddle. The beautiful and enterprising city of Cullman, Ala., has a sensation on hand at present. It is a Breckenridge scandal of a different kind. An old German Lothario of over three score and ten became enamored with the wife of Jacob Stucker a fellow exile from "Faderland," a man bordering on three score. Mohr visited Stucker's house so often that old man Stucker began to "smell a mouse," so he warned Mohr to come no more there, but the old fellow did not heed the warning, and kept visiting his inamorata more than ever. Stucker made determination to protect his marital rights, and his domicile from invasion, so that next time he found old Mohr there he belabored him with a board, giving him what Paddy gave the drum, "a devil of a licking." The old libertine had him indicted for assault with intent to kill, and employed an array of counsel equipped to assist the Solicitor in prosecuting the case. At the May session of the circuit court, Stucker put in a plea of justification as Mohr had been robbing him of his rights as a married man. Mohr denied the charge, but Stucker's wife was in court, and wished to testify, but the privilege was denied her. When Mohr denied the illicit relations existing between himself and Stucker's wife, the latter jumped up in court, and made a five minute's speech in German, declaring herself and Mohr guilty, and husband justifiable in what he did. The Court and Sheriff were so astounded at the woman's action that it was some time before the woman's harangue could be stopped. S.L. Fuller, Esq., for the defense, in his address to the jury scored, skinned and showed up the hoary old reprobate in his true colors. To defend himself, Mohr had written and published in the "People's Protest," a Cullman paper, a slanderous article defaming fuller as a citizen and a lawyer. Prof. Wood, the editor, endorsed Mohr's article in his columns, and on the 8th inst., Lawyer Fuller filed two suits for damages, claiming $10,000 in each case. One is against Paul Mohr; the other against William M. Wood. Eminent lawyers will be employed, and many queer things are expected to follow.

    1. Cullman Fire, 1894
    2. The Alabama Tribune, as reprinted in The Blount County News and Dispatch, 15 Mar 1894: The Cullman Fire. Fire broke out Monday night about 10 o'clock in A.J. York's livery stable, which soon destroyed building and contents, nineteen head of horses included, entailing a heavy loss on Mr. York. The flames soon communicated with a warehouse near by, belonging to Koopmann & Gerder, in which was stored several kegs of powder and some dynamites; and a most terrible explosion soon resulted, blowing the house to pieces and scattering fire, missiles of wood and iron for hundreds of yards around, causing the following casualties: C.T. Mitchell killed instantly, G.O. Dinckelberg dangerously wounded in back of head, Alvin Ahlrich's leg broken, P.M. Allison's leg broken. Rev. Geo. W. Lee's child seriously injured, several others were shocked and slightly wounded. The explosion shattered glass windows in almost every part of the city, and ignited a number of buildings simultaneously, which rendered our meager water facilities powerless. A strong south wind was blowing, which served to protect property south. Had the wind been from the opposite direction this whole block on which are situated the Court House and some of the most valuable property in town could not have been saved; as it was, it was only preserved by the heroic efforts of some of our citizens. The two blocks north of 3d street suffered most from the conflagration. The following were destroyed: Ned Johnson's residence and store, Kinney Bros.' Store, Mrs. Rudder's store and livery stable, F. Arndt's saloon and residence, T.M. Whilhite's residence and the Methodist church. Koopmann & Gerdes insured, amount not known, Kinney Bros. Insured amount not known, Frank Arndt insured for $800, Methodist church insured for $500, balance clear loss. This is the second disastrous fire that has visited Cullman within the last two years, which is certainly sufficient to cause our property owners to realize the importance of providing against a recurrence. The loss of property though not estimated, is considerable, but what is this in comparison with the life of C.T. Mitchell, one of our best citizens? He had a wife and two children, and was comparatively a young man with bright prospects before him; capable in business, pleasant in the social circle, happy in his home and in all the relations of life useful-an irreparable loss. We extent to his bereaved wife and fatherless children our tenderest sympathy. The Methodist church to which the deceased belonged having been destroyed by the fire his funeral took place yesterday at 3 o'clock from the new Baptist church which ad been courteously tendered for the occasion. The Rev. D.S. Mcdonald officiating. The burial service was performed by I.O.G.T., of which he was a member in good standing. Peace be to his ashes!-Alabama Tribune. Later: Mr. G.O. Dinckelberg died on the 8th inst.-Eds.

    2. Bushy, I can try to locate the two Rollo graves in the City Cemetery and take your pics for you (Digital), if you are not in a big hurry for them-cant make it there right now, but can prob. go in the next week or so, if that is ok? Am a bit under the weather right now, healthwise, but am improving, thank goodness! Do you take the Tribune paper from Cullman? In this week`s paper, there is a picture of a house that once doubled as a hospital at Arkadelphia-article says was built for Dr. Drennan by William A. Rollo over a century ago-if you are interested in this pic and article, please let me know, and I will be glad to mail it to you via snail mail. You can write me off of the board if you like. This house is beautiful and still in use today as a private residence-has a short few paragraphs included, telling some of William Rollo and his family history, also-will hold onto it for you, if you are interested! Carolyn

    2. Bushy Hartman
    3. Hi Robert, I appreciate the help but I have searched that entire site for the people listed here and sadly they are not on that site. They also do not show up in the older cemetery books due to the dates they were buried. > Euel or Eulas Van Rollo, b. 17 Jan 1897; d. 22 Dec 1967 > > Lizzie Godfrey Rollo, b. 7 Mar 1899; d. Sep 1986 > > Abe Gailene Rollo, b. 11 Sep 1918; d. 9 Jun 1995 > [may have wife] > > Arlen Rollo, b. 27 Jun 1920; d. 24 May 1999 > [may have wife] > > Harvis Rollo, b. 28 May 1926; d. 25 Oct 1998 > [may have wife] > > I obtained the above information from SS Death index. The ones that do show up on that web page I am trying to obtain photos of the headstones to put on our Rollo Cousins web page. I do appreciate your help though. Thank you Bushy

    1. looking for Bradley Nichols--Rollo researcher
    2. Bushy Hartman
    3. Hello all, I am trying to get into contact with Bradley J. Nichols about his line of Rollo's in the Cullman Co., AL area. Thank you Bushy Hartman May 31, 2006 Dear Dawn, I am a descendent of John Jessie Rollo, Amos Rollo's father. My Great Grandmother was Ida Rollo, Amos's Full sister by John Jessie's first wife Sara Allums. In my records has Ruby Lee Oakley as being born in 1906. I don't have much information on Ruby, but Amos is buried in Mckinley's Chapel Cemetery, in Cold Springs (My be listed on the map as Bremen), Cullman County, Alabama. (also known as Bug Tussle). John Jessie Rollo is also buried in the same cemetery with his second wife, Jo Amy Chambers. Sara Allums died in 1910, and is buried at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, in Empire, Walker County, Alabama. I have pictures of the tombstones for all of the above mentioned graves. Amos was the youngest of Sara's children. I have the Rollo family traced back to about 1750, in South Carolina. I would be glad to share any or all information I have on the Rollo family. Thank You, Bradley J. Nichols
