    2. Seeing the name "Tidmore" in your list reminded me that my third grade teacher back in the `60`s was named Lorene Tidmore-she taught in an elementary school in Huntsville, AL.. As I recall, she was a middle-age woman who had never married. Just wondering if she is connected to your Tidmore line somehow? Carolyn

    3. Thanks for replying. Yes that is me on the net. My gr-great grandmother was Nancy Garren Speegle - your Tom Garren's sister. I knew that Absolom's wife was Winifred Sutton, but the Sitton part is my speculation so far - I really don't have any proof on her side. I have seen the Town Crier and have enjoyed it very much. I do not believe I have the Lanning Revolutionary file. 3. Jim- Hey Cousin! I'm so glad you replied! How do you fit into the family? I found Pinkerton, but not Pilkinton. I just checked rootsweb- are you the James Pilkinton who has submitted under the heading: Pilkinton/Pinkleton/Pilkilton Families of NC,TN, IL, TX and related branches (Bates, Inman, Renfro, Speegle,Thompson, more)? If you are I will look on your site and see what you have already so I don't duplicate too much. The Suttons (Sittons), Whitakers, Reeds, Garrens, et al... are others of my favorite lines. You really learn to love these people the more you learn of them. From what I have learned, these were really good people. Have you gone back to the Whitakers, Lannings, Fouts, Digges, etc... If you are the same James Pilkinton then I see that you have! Very Impressive!!! Thank you for all your hard work and extensive documentation!!!! I'll contribute all that I can! There is a lot of information on them since they were originally Quakers (although I have to admit that I haven't done as much research as possible on them- yet! ) In Fairview, Buncombe, North Carolina there is a cousin of ours; Bruce Whitaker. He writes the history section for the "Fairview Town Crier". He is sooo nice and knows so much about that part of our family. I'll send you the link and you can check it out. http://www.fairviewcommunity.com/towncrier/ Look under "Days Gone By" and you will find quite a few of our family stories. There are some that are quite poignant. I loved it! Bruce gave me permission to use his stories in my database (as long as I attribute them to him). I'm sure he'll give you permission also if you want to use them. Like I said, he is really nice. Do you have John Lannings revolutionary war file? I can send you that if you don't. I'm in the process of documenting all my families right now. As I work on these lines I'll send you what I find. You may already have most of it, but you never know. Again- thank you for responding. Robert McHenry ABEL is the son of Moses ABEL and Elizabeth MCHENRY. Susan CLAYTON is the daughter of Littleberry CLAYTON and Sarah RATLIFF. Leatha GARREN is the daughter of Thomas Burgen GARREN and Mary GRIFFITH. Thomas Burgen GARREN is the son of Absolom GARREN and Winifred SUTTON. Mary GRIFFITH is the daughter of John Wiles (Wiley) GRIFFITH and Hannah M. SPENCER. I have more on these lines and would love to trade information with any of you!!! If you have any corrections, I'd love those also! I'm looking for information on my TIDMORE line as I am trying to either prove or dispel the story I have been told. I really know nothing of my particular TIDMORE line- although I have done extensive research on the TIDMORE family in general and am in the process of entering the documentation I've found so far. Please let me know if you're interested and I'll be happy to share the census and other information I've been able to gather. My grandmother, Mary Jane TIDMORE, died in 1966 and her mother, Ethel ABEL, died in 1984 so my sources for information are limited to those who might have known them or the family. From what I've been told, my grandmother didn't really know her father. We were told that his name was William TIDMORE and he apparently died either right before her birth or shortly thereafter. I can find no records for a marriage for Ethel and William (assuming they were married). I can't find a death record in that time frame for William either. We were told that his family owned a sawmill or logging company and that he was killed in a logging accident. I've been comparing census records from 1900 to 1920 to see if I can find any dissappearing William's, but I have found nothing yet. (I just began this project). I was told by Mary Jane's half-sister that after William died, the TIDMORE grandparents offered to care for Mary Jane, but Ethel refused. Instead, she answered a classified ad and ran off to San Francisco where she married a man named John Charles SCHNELL. Mary Jane was raised as a SCHNELL and I don't believe she ever was able to meet her TIDMORE side of the family, which is unfortunate. In doing the research I have and from the online relationships I have developed, I have come to really love this line! Does anyone know a TIDMORE family that was involved in the LOGGING industry around 1920, possibly located in or around Blount County? I know there were some TIDMORE's in Hanceville that operated a COAL mining industry of some kind (TIDMORE COAL), but the name of the company and an old newspaper ad is all I have on them. I wonder if my aunt might have confused the story and it might have been a coal mining accident instead. (Or perhaps my great-grandmother didn't want the truth to be known so my grandmother wouldn't try to find her father. She has been known to be a little impetuous- but I love her anyway!) I do have more on some of the other lines (especially SUTTON and GARREN) that I would love to share/compare with any cousins. I look forward to hearing from you all. Have a GREAT day!!! Linda Lieby

(copy sent by Carolina Nigg of Cullman, AL) Family story says that her father died when she was a baby possibly CW and she was raised by a Gamble family. Another story says her mother died in childbirth and her father gave her to relatives to raise. That her mother may have been a Gamble. There is a Parthenia Gamble listed in 1860 census with Henry Gamble family. She is not listed on the 1861 Confederate census as a child of his, so if his child she may have died young. Also a brother named Marvin. I think that Avie's family lived at Albertville when she was born. Marvin and Avie spelled their name Byrd but not sure if it is Bird or Byrd.

    3. Jimmie, from Cullman go north on U.S. highway 69, to the intersection of county highway 747, turn right and the church is about 1/4 mile on the right. It is kind of hard to see the road to it.
