Fred, My name is Elli Smith-Rice. I have been working on the family tree for years now and keep hitting brick walls. But anyway my Dad is Norman Smith and if I am correct the school he went to was Grandview. It is still standing and is used as a Hunting Lodge from what Dad told me. Dad said that Hiram Jones was the princial and Montez Jones was one of the teacher and the other teacher was Ms. Speigle. The School is across the street from a cemetery on the hill, in a pasture. The cemerty is on the property of Mobley-Hanes. I did take photos of it 4 years ago and do not have them here with me. They are in Atlanta, will see if my daughter can dig it up for you. Right at this time I am caring for my ill Dad and do not get home often enough. I am sorry I could not have been of more help to you. Feel freen to email me at anytime. ellirice@aol.com. Good Luck, Elli

You might contact the public library in Cullman and see if the have any past year books and could print the pages and mail them to you.
Your family members are hard to find and I think most of it is because of incorrect spelling on those who transcribe records or because the person didn't know how to spell it correctly or the spelling changed. For what ever reason. I could not find any McDuffey/McDuff/McDuffie in the Cullman County census records in 1880. I did find two Neal McDuffey in Georgia listed below. You might contact the funeral homes in Cullman County and ask them where the cemetery is your looking for and see if they can tell you is the funeral home went out of business or changed names. That might help you. Record you might search that I found are listed below. No need to reply I see you are un-subscribing I'm not connect in any way just trying to help with a look up. The last time myhusband was out by there last year the School was still standing. That was this past summer. My husband attended school there also.I have been meaning to take a picture of the school myself. If it is still there I will be going that way possibly over the Christmas Holidays to visit my mother in law grave and will get a picture of it.
Regretfully no, Grandview School is gone. My mother taught there a while also and I knew Mrs. Montez Jones well. There might be a picture of that school in the Jones Book that Mrs. Jones wrote. I'll try to remember to look. i think his name is John Myrick........
Confederate monuments were placed for Andrew Jackson Edwards and Lemuel Allred yesterday (November 24). Allred's grave heretofore was an unmarked stone next to his wife Nancy Allred in the Keith or Brown cemetery near Dodge City in Cullman County. Lem was a Private in Company C of the 29th Alabama Infantry. He was born in 1830 and died in 1910. Lem was captured at Nashville and served time at Camp Douglas until he was released in Jun of 1865. Andrew Jackson Edwards was buried in the old family cemetery on Stout's Mountain about a mile East of Lem's grave on the East side of Interstate 65. The Edwards family cemetery is located on private deer club timberland and difficult to locate. It's at the top of a hill at the end of County Road 511 southeast of Hanceville. County Roads 512 and 511 were built on top of the old railroad bed which carried coal from Stout's Mountain to the tippler at Hanceville. After some struggle, Edward's 200+ pound upright monument was slowly rolled up the steep hill over an old log road and placed beside that of his wife Sarah Ann Melinda "Sam" Ellis Edwards, who died in 1913. A.J. Edwards was born in 1833 and died 1888. He was a Sergeant in Company F of the 48th Alabama Infantry. He fought for four long years and finally surrendered at Appomattox. Neither of the old soldiers had an official ceremony of commemoration by any latter day sons of veterans. That may come later. However, following the placement of their monuments, the men involved (one of whom was a GGGrandson of both Allred and Edwards) put their tools aside, tipped their caps and bid the old soldiers to Rest In Peace, secure in the knowledge that for decades to come, other descendants can now visit their graves and honor their service.

A man that worked at Cullman Library sometime back was trying to transcribe all the Cullman Cemetery's.You might call the library and ask about that.I believe he would know of the cemetery. His name has just escaped me right now.
Thank you, Carole! I remembered Robin`s last name being Sterling just as soon as I hit the send button for my em about him-which is usually the way it goes, it seems! LOL Robin said in a note he sent out, explaining why his site was being took down, that people were taking his pics from there, esp, but also the recorded data, and then reposting them, and selling his info to their subscribers. Such a shame, as I loved his site and spent a lot of them there, looking for relatives. Thanks for posting his em address here, Carole. Whoever it was that was asking about that old cemetery hopefully can find some answers from Robin, if you would like to write and inquire about it. Carolyn
Does anyone know why Robin took his site down ?
