Could I prevail upon someone to send me the publication information for the book "History of Mountain Grove Congregational Church 1890-1990" The only thing is I can't remember if I am still subscribed to this list so please send it to me at my email address. Thank you. Helen
Helen, If you get this message then you will know if you are still a subscriber or not. I don't know anything about that book but I am sure that someone is. Goodfellows Orphanage does not sound just right. I believe it might have been Oddfellows Orphanage. Dorothy
The Goodfellows Orphanage is now Childhaven. It is still in existence and is now run by the Church of Christ. The address is 1816 Childhaven Road NE, Cullman AL 35055; telephone: 256/734-6720. Dorothy
Pam if this lady taught school you might get something from the Board of Education. I have the Cullman phone book if you need the phone number and address to the orphanage. Last year's Miss America is getting married tomorrow in Louisville. Did you get my last email? I am mailing the surgery info to you. The probe was for biopsy. I am sorry I misquoted. See ya, I am clearing out my trash bin and ran across this letter. Got report yet? Karen [email protected] wrote: > I have an ancestor whose half sister worked at Goodfellow's Orphanage. Does anyone know of any Merritts (spelled Merrett, Marrett, and many other ways...) living in Blount County between 1870 and 1900. They started in central Alabama before moving to Blount and later on to Cullman. What I'd really like to find out is any information on a Wiley or Willie Merritt (spelled Merrett and Marrett, etc, etc.) living there. His age would be between 30 and 50 between 1870 and 1900. My theory is below: Wiley Merritt, born around 1780 to 1800 (location?) his son: John Merritt, born in 1814 in NC, for certain (not sure which county) and his son: Wiley Merritt, born around 1838 siblings of this younger Wiley (b. around 1838) are: Carolina b. 1841 NC Elizabeth b. 1843 NC Sarah b. 1845 NC John b. 1855 AL George b. 1858 AL I think they all moved to Montgomery right around 1845 and stayed there until at least 1864 near the end of the war. Then they moved to Blount and then Cullman. I would appreciate anything on a Wiley or Willie Merritt (any spelling....) as head of household or as living with other Merritts during this time. Thanks very much for your help, Sherry Sheridan
