John, I borrowed a couple of cemetery books and started on them but since then I have gotten sidetracked with my family tree. But I hope that what I was able to get done will be of some help to someone along the way. I am on total disability so it keeps me busy and my mind occupied when I get bored or feeling sorry for myself. Glad that you enjoyed it. Shirley, I was glad to see so many cemeteries which you had posted to Cemeteries Online, including the Mt. Grove Congregational Church Cemetery, which has been in question today. I was unfamiliar with the Cemeteries Online site, and have bookmarked it for future reference. It looks like you have done some hard work. To my knowledge, it does not. If anyone out there is familiar with this church or the families of that area, I am looking for info on Kitty Viola Webb Chamblee and William Yancey Chamblee, my great-grandparents, who are buried there. This is in Cullman Co. by about 3 miles. My in-laws live on Edmondson Rd. in Hanceville. Instead of going all the way to Pitts', we always turn and go by "The Big House". This church is on the corner where we turn. The river is the boundary between the counties in that area. The Blount Co. side has houses right up to the bluff but the Cullman Co. side still has the natural woodsy area around it. When my kids were small, we'd cross the bridge singing "over the river and thru the woods to Grandmother's house we go." I'm rambling. This started out to be an offer to stop at the cemetery next Sunday if anyone needed a lookup. It's only about a 2 acre cemetery so it shouldn't take long to find a specific grave. Anyone familier with a Baptist Minister by the name of Orson Laurence? He owned land in the Hanceville area and lived in what was Blount county. Thanks Shirley- I also am in the Cullman -Hanceville area! :)
The book can be ordered through the North-central Alabama Genealogical Society at P. O. Box 13, Cullman, Alabama 35055. I believe the price is $7. The Mountain Grove Congregational Church is located on the Hanceville-Blountsville Road near the Cullman-Blount County line. Helen, the only cemetery that I have posted lately is one that I surveyed in Ohio when I was there. Have been so busy with family reunions and my family tree and making family tree books for other people that my cemeteries have kind of gotten laid by the way.
