Yes, the book has been spoken for, but am happy to see so many requests and so much interest in Cullman Heritage. There is no author nor copyright to this book. It appears to be some type of Membership book given possibly to the members of the Church. with calendar 1955-1956-1957 Has " W.S.C.S. of Simco Methodist Church" written at the top of the 3rd page. gives address as RR No. 2 Cullman County and a brief History paragraph. I am also intersted in this book because I have just discovered that the Oaks family who are buried therein are my ancestors. I know that others are also interested so, possibly, the person who obtains the book could do "look-ups" or share with those of us on the Cullman list? I would be happy to do so. Adrienne <[email protected]>
Diane, I don't have a listing of Fairview West, but I have alot of people buried there. Who're you looking for? Lisa

Carolyn, I cant explain why you are getting a request for a password. I have forwarded this on to our webmaster for her to look into. In the meantime: Which cemetery were you trying to go to? What Internet browser are you using? Does the computer you are using require passwords for downloading information from the Internet via FTP? Are you using a networked computer, perhaps one at work? If we can't figure out what it going on, please email me back at [email protected] with the cemetery that you need information on and I will see what I can do. Seeking info. on Carr's from Cullman County -- Hugh Montgomery Carr (abt. 1852-1934) m. Isaac Palestine Missouri Hobson (abt. 1861-1934) and their parents and children.
I have sought help from every other means I know to get at least minimal recognition for the "John Blackwood Cemetery" located SE of what is now known as Central (old timers call it Sims Central). It is located on private property but not on space good for anything but a cemetery. A nearby resident some years ago was acquainted with it when it was more intact, saying there were perhaps as many as twenty graves there. Its namesake and his spouse may or may not have been the first buried there, but he died in 1888 and she in 1895. It is more precisely located at the SW-1/4 of the NW-1/4 of section 31 of R4W, T9S on a prominent knoll SW of the paved road shortly before and SE of Central, Cullman county, Alabama. When I was last there the place had been so ravaged by vandals and neglect that little except unmarked marker stones and one sign of "John Blackwood Cemetery" was about the only visible evidence it was more than undisturbed land. Direct vehicle access is not provided, yet. Two of those graves belong to: John Blackwood, b. abt 1819, Blount co. AL, d. 1888, Sims Central, Cullman co., AL, C.S.A., Co. G, 56 Alabama Partisan Rangers, husband of, Malinda Beavers Blackwood. b. abt 1823, TN, d. abt 1895 (she had died in the Herrin community, Morgan co., AL) Any recording or registering of this cemetery for whatever protections such documentation would afford is appreciated. If there is more I can do I seek your advise. What does Alabama legislation provide now for protection of grave sites on private property? James E. Blackwood, retired school teacher of Cullman, AL 35057 can confirm these and later details if desired. Richard Brock [email protected]

I have no idea how you do that Carolyn. I have about 40 cemeteries list on www.interment.com and on that one you do not need a password. Good to hear from you and hope that you had an enjoyable trip up this way. I am looking forward to the next one that we are going to which is in Arkansas in June. Y'all have been so helpful with this Mountain Grove issue. Thanks to those who pointed me in the right direction on the web. I found my Harris ancestors who're buried there and was able to add some dates to my database. One more question. This Cullman Co. cemeteries book..... does it cover all the cemeteries in Cullman... mainly Fairview West and Hopewell? Those are huge cemeteries and even tho I've visited both of them twice, I wasn't able to find everyone who's supposed to be there. Sure would be nice to have it all right at my fingertips. Thanks again, Lisa
