    3. From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Ellis Island Weidners Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 17:58:37 EDT Hello, I ran across a small newspaper article last week that explained how Compaq Computer Co. partnered with The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation to automate the lists of people who immigrated to the USA through Ellis Island between 1892 to 1924, the peak years of Ellis Island immigration. The article says that the records include info on more than 22 million people. The web address is www.ellisislandrecords.org. This site is apparently very busy. It took me three days to finally get in. When I did, I had to register to use the site, but it is free. I guess you could donate if you wanted to, but it isn't demanded. I was interested in my grandfather Berend Gruizinga, who I found listed. It gave me a little info I didn't have for him. I also entered the name "Weidner" in the search engine to see what would come up and the system found 243 Weidners that passed through Ellis Island. The information that you can get is Name (first and last), Ethnicity, Place of Residence (in the old country), Date of Arrival at Ellis Island, Age at arrival, Gender, Mar. Status, Ship name of travel, and port of departure. You can also get a complete list of other passengers that traveled on the same ship, and probably other information. I just thought some of you might be interested. It was new to me. 2. Michelle Henderson
    3. I was hoping that someone on this list might have some info on the Heidenreich Church and/or School founded by the German Baptists in the Grandview community. I know they later joined with other Baptists to form the First German Baptist Church in Cullman (now Seventh Street Baptist). I just discovered this weekend that the Heidenreich Church was in the home of my 3rd great-grandfather, William Schlichting, and I'm looking for any other info I can find. Thanks, Michelle Henderson

    1. [ALCULLMA] A message from your moderator
    2. Jayne Holland
    3. Dear List Members, As there is some confusion about the list. Here goes: There are actually TWO lists for Cullman County. The DIGEST (ALCULLMA-D) and the LIST. (ALCULLMA-L) Members who are on the DIGEST only get emails once a day, and LIST members get emails every time they are sent or replied to. Our main problem is where members actually mean to REPLY to an individual person and you instead hit the reply button which results in your message getting sent to the entire list. (The digest as well as the list) Some of you are on BOTH the LIST and the DIGEST which means you get all emails as they arrive and again at the end of the day when they are sent as a digest. You must type UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line..... ....NOT ,"REMOVE ME." UNSUBSCRIBE has to be spelled correctly, or it will not work. If the list gets an email with "please remove me", it takes me a few days to read your email message, find your name and manually remove your name from the list. Some of you have changed email addresses and have more than one email address on the list, for example your "work address" "hotmail" address and your home address. You must UNSUBSCRIBE from the same place you subscribed to the list originally, or the command "unsubscribe" will do nothing. This list as many others has a MODERATOR. When problem arise, I actually correspond to the person who has the problem individually, to solve the problem. There is no need for other list members to reply to every email(er) with answers. Please remember when you hit REPLY it goes to EVERYONE on the list, not just the person with the problem. AGAIN if you want off and can't seem to get off our list please email me and I will manually remove your name. [email protected] please put HELP in the subject line. And...... a little patience for those who are new to computers, please. Some people send their comments to everyone and really don't know that's what they have done. Please just use your delete button. Jayne Bailey Holland Nassau Bahamas
