Can anyone help me locate where Sharon Grove Methodist Church cemetery is? My ggrandfather, his father and mother in law are supposed to be buried there. I can't find it listed in the Al. cemetery listing. Thanks! Melinda Smith Swoboda [email protected]
There is a Sharon Grove Methodist Church and Cemetery in Trimble. An index of that cemetery is online on the Library's "Western Cullman County Heritage" page at: http://www.ccpls.com/Western%20Heritage%20Home%20Page.htm Hope this helps! There may also be another Sharon Grove Cemetery on the east side as well. Inga, This is wonderful news. I'm planning a trip to Hanceville with my Mother and Aunt on Mother's Day weekend for Decoration Day at Fairview West where their parents are buried. I was planning on going to Hopewell, and now I'll plan on visiting Livingston also. I don't have an Elzie Gay in my database, but Jonathan Gay and his wife had 7 children that I know of and the only line I've been able to trace is my own. I would love to know more about her (Elzie). Lisa "Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://raogk.rootsweb.com" Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Lisa, I have an Aunt Elzie (Gay) Ward who has told me her Gays are at hopewell also. She lives down at Corner,AL Blount Co., she is pretty old now and her mind comes and goes, but if she turns out to be one of yours I will be glad to introduce you to her children. Her husband was Frank Jackson Ward and he is buried at Livingston Chapel on Co. Rd 222 a little past Crane Hill going west; There are supposed to be a number of Gays in this cemetery also, according to a friend who turnered out to be Elzie's neice on the Gay side. I will be glad to help you any way I can. Inga
Thanks everyone for your replies in helping me determine where the community of Glade is. Inga, thanks for the info about Hopewell also. Those are my Gays buried there including my gggrandfather, Jonathan Gay, the one who is listed as living in Glade. I'm hoping that when ancestry.com posts the Cullman Co. 1900 census that Glade is listed and I'll be able to find Jonathan Gay on it. Regards, and thanks again to all, Lisa Kennard "Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://raogk.rootsweb.com" Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Lisa, There are a good number of Gays buried at the Hopewell Cemetary, Hopewell Baptist Church. It is Located just off Hwy 31 on Hopewell Rd, which comes in from the East(Left heading south), between the Johnson's Crossing xroads and Wallace College (on the right). There will be a Church sign and Arrow on 31. The Johnson's Crossing xroads will take you on into White City if you turn East there, turn right and you will go into Golf Course Road and into Dodge city. Good Hope is North of Dodge city. I hope I haven't confused you too much! You may want to write or email the Cullman Chamber of Commerece for a map of the county and major cities there. Inga
Community of Glade according to this site: USGS GNIS (GNIS) http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form Is in Hanceville. OOPS! Well, I said I "thought" it was Good Hope. Sorry. Hi Michelle, Thanks for answering my question. His name was Jonathan Gay. I have loads of relatives from that area also including the Gays, Harrises, Hestlas, Johnsons and Lovelesses and other lines. Do you happen to know if Glade/Good Hope is anywhere near the little intersection of Johnson's Crossing? Lisa
Lisa, Well, I live just below Johnson's Crossing. It's right above Hanceville on HWY 31. Good Hope is about 15 minutes west of it. I don't know of your Jonathan Gay, though. Hope that helps. Lisa, Glade is what the community of Good Hope used to be called, I think. It's located SW of Cullman. What was his name? I have many relatives in Good Hope.
