I am descended from the Phillips family that migrated from Virginia to Walker County,AL. I am also descended from the same Elliott family that Karla is. What is the first names of the Phillips family that you are researching ??? Thanks, Michelle Brown Golden Cullman,Alabama ----Original Message Follows---- From: [email protected] Reply-To: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ALCULLMA] PHILLIP/FINE Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 17:19:20 EDT I am curious about how your ancestor wound up with the name Elliott when he was owned by Phillips? My ancestors were white Elliotts who lived in Hanceville and Walker Co. but I am pretty sure they didn't own any slaves. They were too poor. OOOPS, I think I typed the name wrong - it's MOTZKUS. I don't have anything other than a Frank MOTZKUS marrying a Bertha NOLDE. Bertha came here from Germany in 1893 with three NOLDE children, one of which is my ggrandfather. She supposedly married Frank MOTZKUS and had other children. We are trying to make a connection with these MOTZKUS descendents. Thank you for your help. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2001 5:00 PM Subject: Re: [ALCULLMA] Names Researching > There are 3 listings of Motkus in the Cullman phonebook... S Bryant I live here at Bug Tussle which is about a 10 minute drive to the colony area. I have been researching the cemetery there and about a month ago I carried the old death certificates that I have got to Mrs Johnson. I have been working on this cemetery about 2 years in my spare time. The death certificates are from 1908 to 1959. I don't have all of them yet but I am still looking. Do you have a picture of Sammy Boyd and his wife Nancy? The birth of one of their children was listed in the Cullman Court house in the early birth and death records. How do you connect to the Boyd family? I have some family history on them but not a lot. I am willing to share what I have. I would like to hear from you.
