If you would like a scan of this obituary, email me. (There is a pic included.) *Note* Robert Samuel Rainer is the son of R.K. Rainer & Mary Frances Smith, grandson of James D. Rainer and Martha Ann (Jones) Rainer. He was my Great Uncle. Rainer: Funeral services for Robert Samuel Rainer, 85, of Opp, were held at 4p.m. August 14, from Rainer's Funeral Home. Rainer, who died at 12:25a.m. August 13, at Baptist Medical Center, Montgomery, was a funeral director for more than 41 years and was owner of Rainer's Funeral Home until his retirement in 1962. A veteran of Worl War I, Rainer was a resident of Opp for 68 years. He was an active Rotarian for 25 years and had been an honorary Rotarian since 1968. He was a life member of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John Carmichael at Rainer's Funeral Home. Burial was in Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Ray Jeffcoat, Carroll Pierce, Hubert Sullivan, Ken Clemons, J.L. Nolen, and B.H. Hall. Rainer is survived by his wife Mattie Lea Cobb Rainer of Oppl three daughters, Dorothy Rainer Sellars of Opp, Alice Rainer and Clarice Rainer both of Winston Salem, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Trudie Chesser of Albany, G.A., Mrs. Maggie Lea Delmar of Lake Wales, FL, Mrs. Edith Kirkpatrick of Fort Deposit, and Mrs. Kate Tate of Opp, and two grandchildren, Bill Sellars of Atlanta and Lee Sellars of Opp.
