James Coons was a teacher. She had a brother named James who was born c. 1858 and may have been a Methodist minister. Mattie Lou and her brother, James, were raised (reared) by Rebecca and Samuel Reid, cousins. Mary White Coons was from TN and Native American - don't know if full blood, but very likely. Another cousin was Bob Matthews, who received land from the government in Oklahoma based on his Native American heritage. His Mother was a sister to Mary White Coons. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
