On this certificated shows his father Jesse Ezell born Alabama, and his mother as Miss Wells born Alabama. I than tryed to find my grandpa Curtis Tanger Ezell born 1895, so after looking up the Alabama census of 1900, of Escambia vol.2, sheet 22, E. D. 152, line 26, I than found my grandpa Curtis, born Aug. 1895, Florida, with his father William H. Ezell born March 1855, age 45, and mother Roxy, born November 1861, born Florida. From this information I further found by looking up the census of Milton, Florida, dated June 13, 1860, I find Jesse Ezell at age 34, also showing Alabama as birth place, ( Jesse's wife shows her as Ann E., age 20, birth place Alabama ). Further on this 1860, census shows the children as W. H. Ezell, age 5, born Florida, Henrietta Ezell, age 3, born Florida, the next child name John L. Ezell age 7/12, born Florida, findly a child I know nothing about or if she was a member of the family, her full name Sarah J. Banks age 8, born Florida. Jesse (B.) Ezell and Eliza Wells her name found as Ann, on the 1860 Census, had Children one called William Henry Ezell born 1855, later married Roxanna Cobb, than there was John L. Ezell later married Henrietta Jane Diamond, also Mary Ezell born 1863, Annie Eliza. Ezell born 1868. William Henry Ezell born 1855 had a son Curtis Tanger Ezell born 1895, later was the one who married Esther B. Steel, who was my Grandma. Curtis Tanger Ezell had children which was William Eugene Ezell Preston Lee Ezell, Doris Ezell, Hazel Ezell. The following information may or not be the same Jesse Ezell. Application for the pension of J. B. Ezell #26889. It says Jesse B. was enlisted for over 3 years. and that he served in Company E. At the close of the war he was at Columbus, Georgia in the Confederate hospital, then known as Lee Hospital, after being wounded at Dalton, Georgia. The following information I do know as Fact; Jesse Ezell Regiment Name 1 Florida Infantry. Company F Soldier's Rank_In Private Film Number M225 roll 3 So far I have found Variant spellings of the Ezell also to include ( Uzzell ), By examining of this name it doesn't matter how you spell it or even pronounce it, anybody by that name is bound to be kin, even those spelled with an "S". Here are some variant spellings Uzzelle, Uzzle, Uzzel, Oisel, Ezzell, Ezzelle, Ezel, Essell, Easwell, Ezzall, Ezall, Issul, Izard, Oisel, Usel, Usselle, Sills and perhaps Youell, or Gills. Lets take the name ( Uzzell ) ever one from this line of family may have distinctive appearance perhaps heavy eyelids and rusty eyebrows, blue eyes and a touch of red in the hair. Lets now take the name ( Ezell ) they may be tall in size with large hands and having black hair. Lets not forget when time goo's on other family line's can add other appearances. Take again Uzzell they were originally French Huguenots. During the persecution they dispersed to Holland and England, where they remained for many years...The ruins of an old Castle Uzzel in the Valley of Aosta proclain one branch of the family prominent in the 13th Century. The earliest note of the name is found at Angers, France. Civic Archives show an abstract that Jean Ozzelle owned a measure of land in 1254 A. D. Family preachers point out many Biblical references, notably Uzziel in 1.Chron., Ezek. and Exodus, always quick to say they were Levites. The oldest of four different known Uzzell coat-of-arms shows three coins. They are believed to be a Crusading emblem. Crusader means ( The crusaders of the Middle Ages fought to win the Holy Land from the Moslems., Crusade means any one of the Christian military expedition between the year 1096 and 1272 ). When the Crusaders journeyed to Palestine, they were forced to cross from Europe to Asia at the Straits of the Dardanelles. These straits were guarded by people who claimed to be Christians. Supposedly they could aid the crossing Crusading warriors. They not only charged the Crusaders for ferrying them but imposed a crossing tax. The Uzzells Adopted the coin emblem, Byzantium, upon their sheilds to "commemorate forever the infamy and avarice", the word meaning greedy desire for money or property. One name to remember is Thomas Uzzell who fled with his parents from either through Holland or the Friesian Islands to England. Then they migrated to Northern Island where son Thomas is said to have married an Irish girl named Sarah Artimore. There's no proof, only family stories. The name Uzzell, is derived from the old France term "Oisel" meaning 'bird. It is a shortened version of the Ozelleure or Ousellere meaning 'seller of game or poultry. ============================================ Santa Rosa Island Other Names: None Location: Escambia County Campaign: Operations of Gulf Blockading Squadron (1861) Date(s): October 9, 1861 Principal Commanders: Col. May be old news to you by now. My grandfather was John Thomas Diamond, whose father was Peter Lazarus Diamond (b10-16-1849, d 10/6/1929 in Jay, Santa Rosa Co., FL.). He married Mary Ezell (sometimes called Marietta or Molly--called Marietta apparently due to the fact that, at the time of her birth, her father was in the Confederate Army at Marietta, GA.-heard this from family history passed down only). I have her birth as being 9/5/1863 in Cottage Hill, FL. and d 10-1-1934 in Jay. I have a copy of her death certificate, says died of acute indigestion 1/2 hour after breakfast. Mary's parents were Jesse B. Ezell (1824-1877) and Eliza Wells (b 1937?). This was her first marriage. Her second marriage was late-in-life to John Diamond II (Peter Lazarus Diamond's father who was born on a sandbar in a hollow log on the Chattahooche River in 1814, supposedly while escaping from Indians,) he died in 1908. Seems very confusing to me. They say she was called "White Grandma" because John Diamond II was called "White Grandpa" due his long white beard. Eliza's parents were Little Wells and Henrietta Johnson. (John Diamond II first wife was Mary Elizabeth Johnson??) Henrietta's parents were Robert Johnson and Martha Roberts and Littleton's parents' were Ben Wells and Lyda "Black Dutch". She was born in Holland and it was said had dark skin. I have Jesse Ezell's parents as being G John Ezell and Sarah Polk and John's father was Timothy Ezell. Any mis-information I have I'd love to know. Or if anyone has more information, I'd love to know that too. Preston Lee Ezell his son said he worked in a Saw Mall too, but most of the time he was a Boot lager. The Southern Plantation Corporation of Chicago, Illinois, founded Robertsdale in 1905. They chose the city's present location largely because of good farm land and the fact that the Louisville and Nash- ville Railroad line had just recently made extensions to Foley, The Town was named after one of the officials of the corporation, Dr. B. F. Roberts. Robertsdale was incorporated in 1921, For the next twenty years the town's growth mirrored the fortunes of the entire country during this same period. But with the 1940's came the beginning of growth and prosperity for the Town. In 1940 the Baldwin National Bank moved to Town and nine years later the Robersdale Livestock Auction began operation. In 1950 the Town reached well over the one thousand mark in population and by the early 1960's with close to 1,500 people, the City saw its first large industry, South Baldwin Mills, establish itself in Town. =========================================== Descendants of Peter Henry STEELE II 1 Peter Henry STEELE II =Elizabeth DANLEY Marriage: 1816, Charleston Co, SC 2 William Colby STEELE =Elmira Jane DANIELS Marriage: 1855 3 Isaac 'Ike' Shovin STEELE =Mary Ann 'Polly' BROWDER 4 Coler Baime STEELE =James Edward ARD Marriage: 23 MAY 1906, Baldwin Co, AL 3 William L.
