My name is Lena & I am currently trying to ungnarl the roots of my Shreve families of Alabama. My third great-grandparents are Thomas & Eliza Ann RATLIFF Shreve of Rockingham County, NC to Alabama. Thomas was born 08 January 1816 to John & Mary 'Polly' MILLER Shreve & died 20 December 1896 in Butler County, Alabama. Eliza Ann was born 02 March 1822 in Virginia & died 21 January 1872. They are said to be buried in Crenshaw County, Alabama, Their children: James died in War of Northern Aggression Martha William Clement Nancy Elizabeth Mary Edward David Julia Thomas' second wife was an Edna Ford, with her he had two children: Walter & William A. Edna was still alive in 1900 & living with Walter, William may have died by this time. I have no idea why Thomas & Edna would name one of their sons William when he & Grandmother Eliza had already named my second great grandfather William Clement. In 1850 they are in Chambers County, 1860 Butler County, 1870 Rutledgem Crenshaw County, 1880 South Butler, 1890 Oakey Streak, Butler County Tax Roll. James Shreve died in the CSA. Martha Shreve, I have no idea what happened to her. *William Clement Shreve married *(1) Nancy Elizabeth STALLINGS, daughter of Reuben Reid & Leonora Ann BROGDON/EN Stallings; (2) Laura JERNIGAN. Nancy Elizabeth Shreve married Eli Merrill. Mary Shreve married Reuben Jacob STALLINGS, son of James T. & Nancy Flynn BROGDON/EN Stallings (Nancy is/was the sister of Leonora). Edward Shreve, he is 15 in the 1870 census listed with Thomas & Eliza, may have moved to Georgia to Texas & finally to Oaklahoma. David Shreve, married a Martha Eugenia LEE & has passed-away by the time the 1900 census is taken for Aunt Martha is listed in Crenshaw County with her Mama & her & David's children (Alice, Mary, Herman Evoy & Rufus L. Shreve). Julia Shreve, her last listing is in the 1880 Census with Thomas & Edna, past this I have no idea what happened to her. Walter Shreve, is listed in the 1900 Aiken, Crenshaw County, Census with his wife Fannie, their children Ruth, Lona(?), & Linnie & his Mama Edna. In 1910 he is in the same county with Fannie, Ruth, Lona, Lena, Dollie, John, Grady, & his Mama Edna. Any information in regard to this family will be greatly appreciated.
