    1. Re: [ALCOVING] Indian graves
    2. Interesting story. Does anyone know what tribe they were from? Emily I was told that 6 Indians were buried in a field covered in pine trees near Mt Carmel Church cemetery. Laura Strickland Hallford b. 1907-1999) told her grandson that six (6) Indian were buried in a field covered in pine trees in an area near Mt. Carmel Church cemetery or between Pigeon Creek church and Mt. Carmel. Apparently the Indians died when she was a girl. Does anyone have any info on this? Joan

Surnames: Mitchell, Coleman, Miller Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RS.2ADI/609.1.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Gregg, My husband is descended from J. C. Mitchell from Covington County, AL - Rose Hill postmaster 1859. Lived in Florala and Holmes County, FL. I believe he was born 1835 in Georgia. I'm very interested in your Alexander Isaiah as possibly being his father. J. C. (we believe his first name was Jefferson) Mitchell and his wife Tabitha raised two adopted children - Catherine and Thomas Albert. Catherine Mitchell is my husband's great-grandmother. She had two daughters with unknown Coleman - Almeta and Clara. I've seen the Almeta name associated with Isaiah's family in other places. Have you seen anything in your search that could connect this Jefferson with your Isaiah? I know Rose Hill is a very small town - I was born in Opp - so I figured that Mitchells there during the same time frame might be relatives? Thanks, Sherrie Johnson

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RS.2ADI/1416.4.1.1.1 Message Board Post: It looks like we have it here Eddy. It looks like your like your Oscar Alexander Oliver Ballard's Father was the Son of Butler Ballard. I believe his name was John Alexander. There is an Alexander or Elexander that is listed in the 1880 Covington census as Son in the household of Benjamin Randall 'Butler" Ballard and Mary Elizabeth Etheridge and I believe this is most likley him. Butler Ballard is clearly the Son of Benjamim Randall Ballard Sr 1811- 1890 and Sarah Nancy Jones b1816 d1894. Benjamin Sr was the Brother of Dr Johnathon O (Oliver) Ballard. Notice the Oliver this seems to be another clue of a relation. So it seems we are most likley cousins of some sort. The story of Benjamin Sr and Dr John's parents are pretty complicated. I recommend that you go to the Ballard family message (Roots Web) if you go back a few pages you will see Ballards of Covington title with my name on it .Several people respond to this, and I recommend you read the whole series. The first m! essage from Lynne Miller has a lot of information for you. Let me know if you have any trouble getting there, and after you absorb all that is there I think we can talk again. Please e-mail me directly at mattnapa@aol.com if you would like to avoid the message board.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RS.2ADI/1416.4.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for your response.I have found Farrow Cross to be the son of William and Nancy so that part has been solved. I still have the issues of my Grandfathers family. He was Oscar Alexander Ballard b-Nov. 2,1905 and d-Oct 1978 . I have been told his father was James Alexander Oliver Ballard ..no dates on him except he died somewhere around 1912 give or take a few years. I believe he was the son of Butler Ballard but i cant find him listed anywhere. Im new at this and just getting started so bear with me. I was also told that James was married to a Carolina Victory Jackson..no dates at all on her. The reason we believe he is the son of Butler is because he had a brother named Greenberry. This name does show up under Butler Ballard. If you have anymore to add to this please do. I have found a lot on my Grandmother but have hit a big brick wall on my Grandfather. Thanks

    3. Does anyone know how Clear Springs Cemetery fared during Hurricane Ivan? This cemetery isn't actually in Covington County. It's south of Florala on Hwy. 85 in Okaloosa County. My mom, dad & grandfather are buried there & it looks like it may be awhile before I can get over there because of the Escambia Bay bridge being out for repairs.
