CGT Covington Dispatch Sept. 17, 1953 Grimes Family Reunion Celebrated Sat. All Children, 27 Grandchildren Attend Outdoor Barbecue Served To 40 Odd Guests and Relatives Mr. and Mrs. Orm Grimes' home on Simmons Bridge Road was the scene Saturday evening of one of the most jovial homecomings in the history of Covington County. The happy parents and an 84- year-old grandmother played host to ten children at an outdoor Barbecue which was attended by thirty-five pr forty friends, neigh- bors, children, thier wives and husbands, and a yard full of grandchildren. Mr. Grimes killed one of his choice baby beefs and CROWELL TAYLOR spent the greater part of Saturday barbecuing the meat and preparing a delicious stew. The feast was servered in the yard of the family home at about 7:30 p.m. Unlike a lot of family reunions, not a child was missing and one daughter and her husband drove from Arizona to make the gather- ing complete. The children's age range from 16 to 40 and all are married but the baby girl, Betty June, who is a student of Pleasant Home High. Gathered with the ten children were twenty-seven grandchildren. The children are: Betty June, Mrs. Donald Griffin, W.H. Grimes, Mrs. Roy Watson, Ulay Grimes, Thomas Grimes, Mrs. Anford Hixon, Aubrey Grimes, J.O. Grimes, and Mrs. Burdett Bozeman. Mrs Grimes was the former Laura Fuqua.

In fact, just this morning, I found my great grandma on the 1890 census and they listed her as 71 years old!!! She was only born in 1873!! So, if the rest of the family members "fit" the person you're looking for, chances are, the age listed is off.

Maybe a year or so before. They had 1 son named Michael Ernest Tate born 12/9/1937 in Opp, Alabama born in their home. In my research I have only been successful at finding one man named H Ernest Tate. This information is from the Florida Death Index, 1936-1998 Record Name: H Ernest Tate Birth Date: 24 Jan 1894 Death Date: 8 Jan 1971 County of Death: Brevard State of Death: Florida I was told that this man was not born with the "H" in his name but later had to take it on because with something he wanted to do, he needed a first, middle and last name. So he chose the "H" I am led to believe the "H" had no significant meaning. I was also told this man may have been a traveling salesman and also had family in Rome, Georgia. I have been unable to track down a marriage certificate for Katherine and Ernest...who were most likely married in Opp, Alabama or a nearby city. If anyone can offer any information regarding Ernest and the marriage between him and Katherine (AKA Kate) please email me at SavvyDaze@ec.rr.com Also, if you have any information on the above mentioned Rainer/Tate family line, please let me know! I will be happy to share the information I have as well. Thank you! Kim
