If you would like that information just let me know. Kim
Kim. Thank you! I do have a few corrections (not to be rude). According to Alabama death records Aunt Lenora Ann SHREVE Bell died 27 January 1944 (an obituary would be the best way to clear-up these two differences in years). My great grandmother is/was Ina Esten WILLIAMS Shreve, not Esther. Their children were: Mary Will Shreve, Joseph Edward Shreve, William Clement Shreve, & Ina Esten Shreve. Grandmother Shreve, as I call my great grandmother, passed-away 03 November 1960 in San Diego (Grandfather Shreve moved them all out there, except Aunt Elizabeth, after the boweevil desimated his cotton crop, & he left the family hardware store in charge of Uncle James William Shreve & one of his sons-either James or John). Uncle Hilliard did marry, to a Lillith -?-, will have to ask Cousin Debbie when & her surname. Aunt Edith was married to a -?- Logan before marrying Uncle Jesse. Uncle Jesse was found dead 09 October 1939 after commiting suicide (was to spend 3-5 for mail fraud). Mary Ellen, Thanks for being this to everyone's attention !! You are VERY correct. For instance the Alabama State deaths 1908-1956 has a lot of the death certificates that are ON the actual rolls of microfilm not listed in Ancestry. For instance Joseph Aplin is NOT listed as not having died in Alabama by only using Ancestry's record, yet I have a copy of his & several death certificate for Covington County, AL. He was never transcribed to the lists. So just because you don't see them does not mean they are not there, or here is another thing to watch out for, misspellings. Carpenter can be Carpender ! Aplin & that is what IS written on the death Cert. can have been typed into Ancestry as ALPIN !! So please use Caution using the records & look elsewhere for information also. Also, please use those Family Trees they have with a grain of salt. I would feel safe to say 3/4 if not more or nothing more than copies that someone typed in of another copy that someone did & is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG ! If you do your research you will find the truth. You may pick up a tip by looking at them, but don't put a lot of thought into them unless you know it is correct. Have a nice day !! Lisa
While there are some great resources on Ancestry.com, please use them very carefully. Some databases are a bit misleading. This has always been the case, but it seems they are becoming a bit more confusing, lately. One must read the description of the database and have a good understanding of its sources. I realise that many of you know this, but beginners might not be quite so aware. As an example, at first glance the database "Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s" may seem to mean that this information is directly from ships lists and/or immigration records. In fact it is from various records that are listed in each individual record. These are great resources and should be looked up for verification. My note of caution is that one should not simply copy the vital statistics as they are listed on the search screen, but dig deeper. Example: Name Year Age Place of Arrival Joshua Edge 1729 Maryland This may seem to indicate that Joshua arrived in Maryland in 1729 or that he filed immigration papers there in that year. The actual record reads as below and shows this entry is from land records. Record info about Joshua Edge Name: Joshua Edge Year: 1729 Place: Maryland Source Publication Code: 1243 Primary Immigrant: Edge, Joshua Annotation: Date and place of mention in land survey. County and name of land purchased are provided. Original records are contained in Land Office Registers, indexed starting on page vii of the introduction. Source Bibliography: COLDHAM, PETER WILSON.
