If this is my great grandfather, Bogan, then I am very curious as to why he and his brothers were living, apparently, with a foster family in South Carolina when he was born in Red Springs, Robeson, NC? And who and where were their parents? Bogan was married and living in Andalusia, Covington Co., AL by 1910. I found he and his wife (my great grandmother) Fanny, in the 1910 Census in Andalusia. I found he, Fanny and 3 boys, Basil, Glen (my grandfather) and Morgan in a 1920 Census living in Chickasaw AL. Can someone shed some light on this mystery? Also, is there anyone on this board that lives in or around Andalusia that would be willing to do a little research on my original post about the 3 siblings of my grandfather that died when they were children? Thank you.

Dear Covington List Members, This is my first posting. I am researching the family of Julia Ann McKinney who was born in 1948. Her father was Wesley Stewart McKinney, b. Dec. 1911 in Covington County, Alabama. Wesley can be found in 1930 as W. S. McKinney at age 18 on the Norfolk, VA Naval Base. In 1920, at age 8 it appears that he is living with his grandparents, Mattie and Middleton McKinney. He is listed as Stewart McKinney. I have not been able to determine who Wesley's parents are. I cannot find Mattie and Middleton in 1910 or 1900. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Margaret Oliver

If so, her name is Martha A. E. Adkinson (likely Ann Elizabeth, the various Adkinson descendants used this name repeatedly). If so, I have more information on her ancestors - although you may have this line well researched. And which John Helms did she marry? (Who were his parents?) I likely have more on him, also.
My Cary C. Carpenter b. 1856 & died in 1930 in Florala. He first married Joanna Griffin, born abt. 1856 also. Cary is with his Father William Bailey Carpenter in 1870 & I do not know the parents of Joanna/Johanna/Joe-anna- spelled all sorts of ways. She appears with Cary in 1880 with 3 children. So they married young. Oddly the oldest is George & age 11, which may be a Census taker mistake, Then Jesse Monroe, my great, Great Grandfather, age 5 which is correct & Gussie Eldridge Carpenter age 3. In 1900 in Covington, Joanna CarpenDer is stating to be a widow, but Cary Carpenter has remarried an Elizabeth Carter in 1895. I am not sure the year Joanna Griffin & Cary Carpenter Married, I have 2 of her children's death certs that claim she was a maiden name Griffin. She was living with her great grand daughter & her husband in 1930 in Santa Rosa Fl. when she died. I have been chasing Miss Joanna over 5 years to find nothing to put her with any parents. I do have her death certificate. Cannot locate an Obit. Joanna had a daughter Mary Ellen who also died in 1930 of Malaria in her second married. Now her death certificate says that her mother was MaryAnn Griffin. Of course her daughter was deceased so it was 2nd handed info, but I thought I'd throw that info in. She was never called MaryAnn in any Census at all, but who knows. Cary and Joanna also had a John Dosh Carpenter but I have never been able to locate anything at all on him period after the 1900 Census in Rose Hill Covington. George disappeared also and was not found near or with his Mother, Joanna in 1900, he remains a mystery also. Any help would be great !! Lisa
