Both had been in Montgomery prior to that. Dr.Burrows, born Ca 1820 was from NY and appears on Autauga County Commissioners Court records in 1844, 1849, and 1850. His close relative was Mrs. JoAnne "Anne" Burrows Montgomery, wife of William Montgomery of Autauga County whose home, Buena Vista was near the AL River. "In 1862 Dr. Burrows was killed by a convict named Karminsky. Dr. Burrows had whipped him for misconduct in accordance with the rules of the systerm. He vowed revenge. Watching his opportunity, at a time when Dr. Burrows was off his guard, Karminsky, with an axe in hand, at one blow nearly severed the Doctor's head from the body. He was tried for the murder in Rockford, and hanged in the yard of the Penitentiary, in the presence of the convicts." History of Coosa County, AL appearing in the Alabama Historical Quarterly, Vol 4, Spring and Summer Issue, 1942. I am researching Dr. Burrows and would like to know if he is buried in a Cemetery in Wetumpka or if someone could point me in a direction where I may find more documentation either about Dr. Burrows, his family, or the period when he was warden. Surely there are some exant newspapers or records about Dr. Burrows' death?? He may have gone by the name of Alvin as a nickname at times. I have a copy of an invoice from the Burrows, Holt and Company, Manufacturers of Sash, Blinds, Doors and Wagons dated 1860, 1861 and 1863. At that time prison labor was used to manufacture those items as it was a privately run prison.
