I am a descendent of the Blankenship family from Coosa County, Hatchet Creek area. My immediate family branch moved to TX shortly after the war as my grgrandfather was resourceful enough to join the cattle drives down to Amarillo to feed his family. Eventually, he brought a lot of his family into TX. I too have heard many stories such as yours from my grandfather and great uncle that were told to them by my grgrandfather, Reuben Buck Blankenship who survived the war.
