    1. Re: [ALCOOSA] Whites of Coosa County
    2. According to the book, THE HERITAGE OF COOSA COUNTY, ALABAMA, Heritage Publishing Consultants, Inc. ISBN 1-891647-32-6, on page 29 of this book, ".....Charlie White killed Dock Maxwell as he was milking his cow. Artis Whetstone remembers Sheriff Goggans bringing Charlie by Elam Baptist Church chained in the buggy. The Sheriff's daughter, Mary Moss, wrote an account partly to deny that a Hangman was hired from Birmingham. Mary Moss and her father treated Charlie kindly and even tried to get his sentence commuted. Mrs. Goggans took his hanging very hard and Charlie asked to address the crowd to tell of his undoing and that God had forgiven him." Hope this helps. > > From: "rita thomason" <[email protected]> > Date: 2004/02/11 Wed PM 05:24:14 EST > To: [email protected] > Subject: [ALCOOSA] Whites of Coosa County > > I am searching for any information on a Charley, Charlie,Charles (spelled either way) M. White. I located him in Coosa County, Alabama, in the Weogufka area. All I know about him his that he was the first man leagally hung in Rockford for killing a man, sometime between 1911 and 1914. I went to the courthouse there in rockford and could get no help in finding the records were he would have been hung. (I am clueless as to how to search for something like that-----and obviously the people who worked there were too.) He had several children, Mark, Major, Lonnie, Gertrude, Scott Henry, Levia. Charles White was born around 1853 (according to census records) in Alabama. He was married to Martha Jane Golden. I can find no record of him before the 1880 census. Need to know who his parents were and the date he was actually hung and what cemetery he was buried in. Any information will be greatly appreciated. 3. burns 186, thank you for looking that up. I knew he had murdered a man but I did not know what the mans name was. Would you happen to know how I would go about looking up that kind of record? I need the date of his death and I am hoping it will have where his body was took for burial. I went to the courthouse there in Rockford and told them what I was trying to look up and no one there could help me.
