A cousin of mine who's dones extensive research, some of it in Coosa, and published two books, says he remembers at least one 1800's hanging being mentioned in the County Commissioners' minutes he researched. He was only looking at that period of those minutes and only for our mutual great-grandfather who served as a commissioner just after the Civil War. So he did no research on such in the 1900's era. He suggests you search the Commissioners minutes for 1915. There are NO records in the jail about who was there, you would think they would be in the court house. I dont think the old jail was not in use in1915. The jailhouse is still there and is open some Sunday afternoons for tours and to sell Coosa County Historical Society books, ect. Perhaps he was hung there. He was hung there for killing a man. I believe it was around 1915 in Rockford. I am searching the White, Morris, Dunnaway, and Butler families of Coosa County. I went to the courthouse there in Coosa County but no one there could help me find the records on Charlie White. If anyone can help me find this information i will be very grateful. I need information on when and where he was hung and where he was buried. Hey Lisa: Great you are still there, the Riley boon daggle didn't get your job. I've worked on the Whites for some time but don't have this Charlie, I suspect that's not his real name, probably an aka. Howard White had the most on the White family that I know of. as most know the Whites have many ties to the Blankenship family. I went to Sardis Cemetery in Coosa and found lots of Kelly's but I cannot put the tree together, can any one help ? My connection on my wife's side is to Wilbur Kelly and father George Henry Kelley, all from Kelley's Cross Roads.
