Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.coosa/4108/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for assistance in trying to find records on the Spanish American War Veterans from the State of Alabama. I am trying to gather any and all information about them, and anyone who is interested in helping please feel free to contact me at Johnnyreb6@aol.com. I am currently gathering the rosters of all the Southern Volunteers who served in the Spanish American War, and as you can imagine it's pretty difficult trying to locate all these men by ones self, so I'm looking for any help that I can get. I'm looking for any artifacts, grave locations, personal documents, etc... regarding the Veterans of 1898' to 1902' from Mississippi, or any other State for that matter. This is part of a larger effort by myself and the members of the Micah John Jenkins Camp No. 164, Sons of Spanish American War Veterans, to try and make sure that the Veterans of the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, and China Relief Expedition, are remembered. If anyone is interested in more information about the S.S.A.W.V. please feel free to visit our website at: http://www.geocities.com/sonsofspanamwar/, for more information about the Lieutenant Richmond P. Hobson Outpost of the Camp which is in Southern Alabama. Thank you all for your time, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Kenneth H. Robison II, Camp President, Micah J. Jenkins Camp No. 164, Sons of Spanish American War Veterans.

I feel that the Christiana Speigner is my ancestor whom I have been researching for many years. I always felt that she was related to the Speigners because her gdaughter, stated in a newspaper article that her grandfather cleared the land where the town of Speigner, Alabama is located. I haven`t been able to prove that it was the Speigner because there were, early on, Zeiglers, Robinsons and others who settled that area. Please let me know if you have info to share with me. Surnames: Williams,Mahan,Cotton,Cox,James,Myers Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.coosa/4107/mb.ashx Message Board Post: John H. Williams b. 1800 N.C. d. 1891 Ala. md. Mary Mahan, daughter of Thomas Mahan and Naomi Cox, b.1811 Knox Co., Ky. They were found on 1850 Coosa Co.Ala. Census. Children were, Eli, Martha, James, John Milton, George, Mary, David, Richard, and Sarah. Mary Mahan's sister, Rutha Mahan m. Charles K. Cotton and early 1860 they took several of Mary and John's children with them to Henderson Co., Tex. to live. It isn't known what became of Mary. Son of John and Mary, John Milton Williams m. Nancy Myers and they moved first to Miss. and then to Conway Co., Ark. Nancy Myers parents were John Henry Myers and Sarah "Sallie" James, b. Warren Co., Ga. Though these known name associations with the above names and others I know of, I have backtracked John H. thru the following census and trying to figure out just who his father was. I believe it's possible this Williams line began in Northampton Co., Va.(N.C.) as Quakers, as the Cox family were known Quakers and found with the above names. 1809 Madison Co., Ala. Census: Mahan Cotton Williams Cox Lollar (another connection much later on down the line) 1810 Logan Co., Ky. Census: Williams Mahan James 1930 Warren Co., Ga. Williams Cotton James I also found John Milton Williams and wife Nancy in Lafayette Co., Miss. in 1870s, James in Prentiss Co., Miss. These Williams and James were found in Conway Co., Ark. on the 1880 Census. Been searching for years for the parents of John H. Williams and hoping these earlier locations and other surnames will help someone else identify any of them.
